1) I have three choices, MCP, Georgetown and Boston University. I like MCP a lot, but I have been told about some financial situations. Please someone help.

2) What about applying for Public Health, does that realy works? Do they help pay your meds school? Is there any catch????????

I don't know much about BU and Georgetown (although I've heard some terrible things about Georgetown from people who interviewed there), but MCP is a great choice. They did have some substantial financial woes a few years back, but they're doing fine now. Financially, they're no worse off than any other school now and with Drexel University taking them under their wing, they'll being doing great.
My advice: if you liked MCP the best, definitely go there!

Here's some info from some students at MCP:

I would definitely look into some NON-biased sources about MCP-financial woes, potential issues with Drexel, Board passing stats (have had some years with low pass rates for step one), and where people match.

Well, I don't think I'm as biased as you think I am. First of all, Tenet is EXTREMELY wealthy, and the Philadelphia hospitals are in the black as is the med school. You can use my links on other posts to the Philadelphia Inquirer as a non-biased reference. The only major issue with Drexel, is that my suspicions are such that they will change the school's name to Drexel University College of Medicine effective July 1st, which may make some alumni unhappy....but that's no biggie really...they don't give much $ anyway. The board passing rates have been crummy the past two years...largely because of the rates in the PIL program, this may be shown in more people getting "lesser" residency spots than in years past. I think this will be rectified with time though. You know, as an aside, I've been commenting on these issues for 4 years now, and it's amazing how bad news travels and sticks with people FAR after things have corrected with themselves. I mean I've been here for four years, and I thought people would realize about a year or so after Allegheny left. It's frustrating, and I'm restraining my real feelings about this issue. Truly mind-boggling. MCP's financial woes (?)...that hasn't been true for four years. Whether you think I'm NON-biased or not, numbers don't lie.

Here's the match lists for the last two years...

MCP-H's financial situtaiton was an issue for the 1998-1999 application season. It's now 2002. So let's get over this issue.

My advice: pick the school where you think you'd be happiest. A happy student is a successful student. Good luck.

I'm not sure why you felt my response was targeted at you in particular. It wasn't. It just seems that people, especially those who get extremely emotional and partisan about an issue, may have other agendas. I just wanted to post both sides. I went to MCP and would have made a different choice had I the whole picture. By the way, I don't think it's fair or appropriate use of a bulletin board to try to eliminate people with opposing opinions.

I'm sorry if you thought I was inappropriate, but I'm just venting my frustrations. I totally agree that Allegheny wasn't forthcoming, and were grossly negligent in their responsibilities. However, I'm not trying to eliminate your opinion, I simply think it's factually flawed for the 2002 state of affairs. As far as my agenda goes...I honestly have none. I won't be doing my residency here, and I suppose this issue is more of a pet peeve of mine than anything else. As we will soon both be graduates of this institution, albeit in different forms, our motivations would be inherently the same. I think it's our perspectives that are different. But c'est la vie. Posting here will not help my residency match nor my future job prospects, so it's more of a venting I suppose of years of trying to answer the same question over and over. I would never think it is meant to be aimed at me personally. Sorry if I upset you.
