i know there are a few medical schools that offer this option. in what capacities, can one apply the skills from BOTH degrees?

In my opinion they aren't all that useful if you plan on practicing clinical medicine. And if you decide to be a business man, own some medical facilities it would probably be much more useful to obtain the degree later after all your clinical training is done and you've practiced for a while, gotten the feel for the business side of medicine so you really know what you need to learn.
