How bomb would this be:

What if all the med schools got together with mdapplicants.com to transform it into a universal status update system? All the info about complete status, LOR received dates, interview requests, interview dates, acceptances, rejections, and waitlists would all be updated on there by the schools for our unique anonymous IDs. Daaamn that'd be cool. Just think of all the time/grief that'd save us by not having to check 30 individual status pages, scour our email inboxes, check our mail, wait for phone calls, etc. etc. etc. ! Not to mention it would solve the classic self-reporting bias problem on mdapps.

Hey, I can dream, can't I? 🙄

That would be so awesome and give us a feel for real applicants.

that would be quite bomb. if only they cared about our sanity... 🙂

HAHA...soo true.

The biggest holdup I see from the schools' side is their hesitancy to provide that much transparency into their numbers and their process. I just wrapped up Freakonomics, and after reading it I think that someone would go in and see how schools are working to look for biases of any kind. Schools would know this would be inevitable, and would fail to jump on.

Though who knows? How old is AMCAS? It's really nice to have that central application system...why not a similar central notification system? Maybe in 5-10 years? Don't doubt the ww dot...

Speaking of how old the AMCAS is...

My dad has a copy of his 1978 AMCAS. They used identical course verification codes like my 2006, and the way the application is set up is much the same.

Funny stuff. 😛

really good question.

ur idea would totally make things easier! but unfortunately adcoms cant use that system simply for that reason because they wanna make us go crazy!!! 😀

Well, and look at it this way: every school has its own system. Some send everything by snail mail. Some may be totally paperless, but even they probably all use different software that of course would not be compatible. It would be a massive job to set something like that up. But I do have to agree that it would be cool. Here's a thought: maybe they could do it through AMCAS, since they pretty much all use it anyway already?
