Anybody have any experience with applying to Phoenix Children's/Good Sam Med/Peds or what it is like to be a resident there? I did a medicine elective there, the lectures at IM were good for my purposes, not exactly the flavor of an academic medical center but I liked it, but how is the Phoenix Children's Hospital part of the program? I've heard that they really want their residents to "Be Part of the Team" what does this mean? Are the residents all alike personality wise? I am aiming for general practice, but do they support fellowships if I change my mind?? I've heard Phoenix Children's doesn't produce a lot of pediatric specialists. Any comments about the academic environment would be appreciated! I would love to interview and match there for Med/Peds! (My number one choice so far!) Thank you!

Be part of the team usually means that they are looking for team players. It has been my experience on the interview trail that programs are looking for a variety of people to grace their programs. That being said some programs (CHOP, MGH etc...) are more likely to produce specialists than others. However, the Cincinnati program director said that in their class it tends to be a pendulum that swings back and forth between fellowships and primary care
