I read your post a few days ago and didn't have a chance to respond. I think you sound perfect for Med-Peds. One you find interesting, one you are passionate about. So do both. It's just one extra year, well worth it to protect against professional boredom and provide another level of insurance that you will be interested in and happy with the profession you chose.
 
I'm a first year med/peds resident. I usually tell people that I do medicine for my mind and peds for my heart. Cheesy, I know, but it's pretty accurate.
