Hi everyone--
Quick question. If I take the MCATS in April and want to apply to med school asap for the following fall, is it possible? What exactly is the term for that? and are there a list of schools for this rolling admissions (or whatever..)?
What is that process like?
Thanks!
🙂

You can't take the mcat in April of the year you plan to enroll if you are talking about U.S. schools. That's past all the deadlines. You can get info on rolling/non-rolling from a book from MSAR that's available in SDN's bookstore.

Thank you so much. So you are saying it's only for non U.S. schools and no U.S. schools accept rolling admissions?

Sure, U.S. schools accept rolling admissions. Most of them, probably. But most admissions deadlines are in late fall or in winter. No deadlines are past January, as far as I know. If you take the April MCAT, you have to apply for entrance in fall of the next calendar year. Rolling admissions just means they accept people starting in around October through early spring, as opposed to sending out all admissions decisions at once, like in March.

No. Even if a school is rolling it does not mean they are accepting applicants all year round. There are still deadlines. You cannot take the MCAT in the same year you want to matriculate. (Example: If you take the MCAT in April 2006 you cannot attend med school in Fall 2006, you will have to wait till Fall 2007).

If you take the MCATs this April (06) and still want to be enrolled in med school in Fall (06), you'd be fighting an uphill battle... and by that I mean, you trying to get uphill with a ball and chain attached to your leg and the baltimore ravens defense defending the hill. get the point?

You won't get your MCAT scores until June of 06 and by then all the spots in US medical schools are filled either by accepted applicants or wait listed ones. There would be no time to interview, but the good news is you'd be right on track if you want to become enrolled in Fall 07.
