How much does med school prestige matter when it comes to residency match?

Edit: I am referring only to US MD schools here. I know that DO applicants and foreign med grads are at a disadvantage in the match process. But will a Harvard grad be chosen over a Creighton grad, all else being equal (step 1 scores, etc)?

This topic has been discussed over and over and over again. The most anyone is going to be able to tell you is that it probably makes some difference, but it's hard to quantify much because of individual variations in residency choices. And let's be honest, it very, very, very rarely comes down to the school--all else is never equal.

Do a search, it's been discussed ad nauseum.

The person with a 255 step score that is graduating in the middle 50% of their class from Harvard is going to have an easier time matching into Dermatology at Hopkins Medicine than the person with a 255 graduating in the middle 50% of their class from State University of New York at Buffalo. That is about as helpful as we can be in answering this question, because....
