Does anyone know of a good place for med school/program rankings besides US news and report? (I don't like it 'cause 1) it costs money and 2) it factors in a lot of stuff that I'm not sure really matter.) What I'm really interested in is rankings on which schools offer the best types of exposure/prep work in fields like surgery, primary care, and other fun stuff like that. I'm currently really interested in internal medicine/cardiology so I was wondering what were some schools that had good heart care departments? It's not like I can get into whatever the top schools are, but it would be nice to know just so I can have those as my reach schools instead of the generic ivys. Thanks for the help

I know you said you don't like US News, but they rank the Best Hospitals by specialty, which provides good info about cardiology programs. I think you were referring to the med school rankings with your criticisms. Check out

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/best-hospitals/rankings/specihqcard.htm

for rankings of heart and heart surgery programs. The top 5 are: Cleveland Clinic, Mayo, Johns Hopkins, Mass Gen, and Brigham and Women's. I'd assume the med schools associated with these hospitals will offer you the best opportunities.

That list doesn't provide any surprises.
Those are all affiliated with top schools with the exception of CC which just got a new med program.
