My school has a honors curriculum, I want to do it but I would have to take 25 more units, which is like almost two quarters worth of time. So I was wondering, do medical school really CARE whether or not the applicant was in honors?

i don't think it matters that much. honors is defined differently at different schools so it's difficult for med schools to gauge how much more rigorous an honors program is compared to the non-honors program at the same school.

unless you really really really want the honors diploma from your university, i'd stay out of it, do exceptionally well in the non-honors track, and have an easy time getting into med school. anyone with a 3.8+ GPA and 30+ MCAT has an exceedingly high chance of getting into medical school over someone who has a 3.5 GPA and 30+ MCAT with an honors diploma.

yeah...had i known better I would've opted out of my honors program and focused on getting a better GPA. yay for the premed mentality!

It doesn't hurt, can only help.

im in a university honors program, but I don't think I'm gonna go through the incredible amount of extra work to write a thesis and graduate with honors. I feel that no med school will actually be impressed by this, they will be more impressed with GPA and MCAT....

I think I'll take the usual honors route of reaping the benefits like scholarship and scheduling preference and stay in the program, but theres probably no way i'll actually graduate with honors in the end.
