Hey everyone,

Has anyone notice how Medicine and Dentistry bridge? Well, they do, and are the only two professions that bridge. Heres why: Medicine is the profession that focuses on systemic health and Dentistry is the profession that focuses on Oral health, both are needed to complete out overall health. Physicians have ignore the importance of oral health for a very long time, and that is why dentistry was born. But, now studies have been showing that oral health has been shown to impact systemic health (e.g. Heart disease, miscarriage, etc.)The bridge happens when the dentist or physician (in Europe etc) specialize in Oral Maxillofacial surgery, you see an Oral Surgeon is not only a dentist but a physician. This specialty makes the connection between systemic health and Oral health.

And so, if you think about it Physicians and Dentist are on Par in healthcare (for you guys that hate dentist)

Let me know if you disagree!

Two separate professions, but similar in ways, both have general practitioners, both have specialist and they bridge with the oral surgeon.

Remember! Dentist overlap procedures with dental specialist, and doctors over lap with medical specialities, with that said dentist can overlap with oral surgeon dental procedures and doctors can overlap with oral surgeons medical procedures (jaw, cancer etc)

I put this up because an MD told me that the only good profession in dentistry is oral surgery not the other dental specialties. Well, he doesn't understand that oral surgery is a dental specialty, which requires knowledge in general dentistry, and a dental degree.... Gp dentist and gp physicians are on par respectevely and dental specialist and medical specialist are on par, with the exception of oral surgeon ( this is the bridge ( a dentist and physician))

Rhetoric like this makes me more confident about my interview performance.

OP: This is a silly topic & you're preaching to the choir.

Eh I tend to think of an oral surgeon as a dentist first and foremost.

In countries around the world, a dual license (Medical;dental) is mandatory. So, if a physician wants to be a oral surgeon, they must complete a dental degree, conversely a dentist must complete a medical degree. US will be the next country--watch!

It's called the bridge between oral health and systemic health!

We are all happy to learn that you were able to bridge the gap, now Go buy a tape recorder and hit playback a few more times lol

Why don't you just love what you do and not worry about what other people say? You don't have to justify your career man, and even idf you happen to change that doctor's mind... How will your life be changed?

Be confident in what you do and lighten up bro. :)

Tape recorder: connection between systemic and oral health!

No wonder dentist and physicians make the most money out of all other healthcare professions, gee I wonder why?
