So as a junior you can choose to go to a tech center, and they have a medical assistant program. I asked and the cousleor said that many people wanting to become doctors do this program. My question is whether I should do this or not. If I don't, I will have honors physics, honors chemistry, and AP stat as classes, but if I go to the tech center I will only be able to do chem because I will be at the tech center every other day and can't do the other two classes as electives. My senior year, I will not be able to take anatomy or any other health related classes as electives.

Sorry for all the text, but I could really use some help deciding. Thanks.

Train to be a doctor, not a doctor's assistant.

It seems odd to me that HS students would be encouraged to take MA classes if they want to be doctors. I worked as an MA before med school just because I needed a job; it's a good way to pick up basic skills and figure out if you like being around patients, but I don't see the point of setting yourself back academically to get the MA certification. At this point, you should focus on challenging undergrad courses that prepare you academically for college; your volunteer/EC work should focus on working with people; you should also have a good time while you are young and irresponsible, and for goodness' sake learn to speak Spanish, which you can do just fine as a dishwasher.

When you apply to med school, virtually nothing you did as a HS student counts in your application (unless you win a Nobel prize or rescue an impoverished town in Michigan or something). They really want to know about what you did in college. So the more classes you get out of the way now, the more time you will have in college for interesting stuff.

OK thanks. i really appreciate the answer.
