Hi Folks,

I am going to MCW this fall...I know it ain't hopkins or cornell...but it was my only choice and I loved the school....

anybody going there? thanks, hoping to make some new friends along the way :) ....what are pple doing for apartments? I have no clue where to look, and worse yet, I won't be in wisconsin till august first, is that too late?! :(

I just found SDN, and people seem to be so nice...hopefully someone can help a lost soul :)

Greetings & salutations & stuff,

I, too, will be starting this Fall (Class of '06, Baby!). And who needs Cornell and Hopkins...everyone knows Milwaukee is the place to be (although an LCME-accredited school on the Vegas strip would be nice...).

I have to be honest...I didn't choose MCW. MCW chose me...all the other schools didn't want to take a chance on me. But that's okay 'cause MCW made a great impression on me.

Well, I guess I'll see you this August.

p.s. - I sent you a PM

Hey Bamboozeled,
Me three !!!!
I guess we do have a lot of people looking for apartments at MCW. I too will be moving there in August and have been able to check out a few apartments. So if you people are looking to share an apartment, send me an e-mail at [email protected] , and we can talk more about it.
Laterz and Congratulations  people !!!!

hey akhil...

thanks for the info..I replied to ur pm

I don't know if I will be sharing an apartment for med school though... :) I dunno...freshmen year in college was a bad experience :D

although I'm sure pple in med school are more mature hehe :)

Well in that case , try :
http://aptshowcase.com
and
http://www.startrenting.com/

Good Luck.

I might be there, depending on my situation at Northwestern. I too loved MCW and would have honestly chosen it over Columbia (those who have been around long enough know about my love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with P&S). Maybe we'll be classmates!

Hello everyone! You all will have a good time here next year. As for the housing situation, don't worry about it. There are plenty of apartments around the area. In fact, I saw an ad about sharing a 3 bedroom apartment for just $183 a month ! It's no Bay Area. =)

Oh, the M1s are having their Neuroscience final tomorrow and Physiology on Thursday (WHAT AM I DOING HERE??? ), wish me luck!

Is no one interested in sharing an apartment in Milwaukee ?

Doesn't MCW have a questionaire or survey for roomates? They should have one, most schools do....

Also don't worry Watcha :) all the apartments I looked at are all 2 bathrooms...

Hi guys! I will most likely be joining you all in Milwaukee as well. I just got that roomate questionaire in the mail today too and look forward to meeting everyone come August! BTW, how will we know who our fellow SDNers are in the class of 200 or so?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by hellojed:
•how will we know who our fellow SDNers are in the class of 200 or so?•••••i figured that we could just have tshirts made that distinguish us from the "commoners." then we can make up some sort of hand gesture that we can give each other so that the aforementioned commoners will know that we're SDN affiliated. better yet, we could all get the same tattoo.
in all seriousness, though, we could easily set something up come august (i don't know, exchange real names, maybe). i'm excited to start meeting people there, so i'm sure we're all bright enough to figure something out...

Here is a bump for Bamboozled !!

Hi guys!

Hopfully, I'll be joining you if I get pulled from the darned waitlist! I do have a question for those who are already familiar with the area. Do you all have a car? and how is the public transportation system in milwaukee? I don't have a car yet and probably won't have one for the ist semester..so will that be really problematic? How do students without cars get around?

Thanks and congrats to all accepted! :)

Hi maple,

From what I've heard, it's pretty bad in Milwaukee without a car. There's no subway so you'll have to rely on the buses, and I hear the buses are pretty infrequent. I'm driving cross-country preparing to setup camp in early August.

wow thanks ace, u found this thread?!

does anybody else have aol id? so we can chat and get to know each other...

here is mine

[email protected] :)

pleasure getting to know all of you....

Speaking as someone who used to live in Milwaukee, I agree that it is necessary to have a car to get around the city. The Cream City gets too damn cold in the winter to be standing out in the street waiting for the bus!

Hey, for all of you looking for apts in the Milwaukee area ck out www.jsonline.com It's the local newspaper and should have links to apt listings. The East Side (Downer, Oakland, Farwell, Brady, etc.) is the place to be if you want to live near the action. Otherwise, Wauwatosa has nice, safe, quiet neighborhoods. Also, try a yahoo search for the newspaper the Sheperd Express, its the local alt newspaper and may have listings for apts. A third option if you're in town is to travel to UW-Milwaukee and procure a student apt listing from the student union. Good luck and happy hunting. Hopefully, I'll be among your classmates next year.

MCW is the greatest. I hope you all are looking forward to joining an awesome school this fall!!! Good Luck

Greetings to all you MCW class of '06 classmates. I too will be in Milwaukee this fall. I was just up there this past monday looking for apartments but most of the ones I found have leases that start in July. I know that we should be looking for apt. earlier but I'd rather not pay for an extra month of rent. So I think I'm gonna wait another couple of weeks before I go up there again. So do most students live alone or what? I know it'd be nice to vent with someone during finals and stuff but a bad undergrad experience has made me wary. What do you all think? Anyways, hope to see you all at the white coat ceremony.

hey guys

give us ur aol ids so we can chat and get to know each other :D

if u see me online....say yello! and I will yell back at u  nice to know some pple before school starts...

Hi everybody, did you guys recieve that thick packet about health insurance from them. What are you guys doing about that? Doesnt $140/month for healthy 20-something sound too much to pay.

Congrats to all the future MCW students. Its a great school and you'll have a great time in Milwaukee. I'm a recent MCW grad (for those who don't know me) and am about to start my residency in Madison next Monday.

To onboard: Yeah 140/month is a lot to pay for health and we all complained about it a lot too. However, as I start my residency, I realize that it was actually quite a deal. The same plan now costs over 350 per month for residents (with 200 being covered by the employer).

To badgerbabe: Looks like we're switching places. I moved into my apartment in downtown Madison a couple weeks ago and love the town. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time at MCW.

Good luck to you all!

Another question, what are you guys doing regarding the immunization requirements? I was born in another country and I don?t have the paperwork to document all the required immunizations.

to all of those who are going to MCW-
what were your stats?

PM me if you want my AOL IM

Yeah, I though $140 a month was expensive, until I found out that trying to get it on your own would be almost double that (in Wisconsin, at least...back in California, I ended up paying about $120 a month). This $140 / month is for *everyone* that is a medical student, EVEN if you have preexisting conditions. So while it's not a good deal for me, it might be for someone else. Insurance in Wisconsin (in general) is much higher than it would be on either coast.

The average stats for the MCW class are 3.70 and 10s across the board. I'll just say my GPA was a good margin below that, and my MCAT was a good margin above that. Most of the people in the class, however, seem to have really high GPAs.

I was just wondering, are u guys buying the humana insurance, the 140 a month or have you found alternative sources?

thanks :)

I just got the package today....

I just got the package today....•••••Do we really need that low deductable, since MCW does have a student health center we can go there for a simple stuff. For insurance we should stick with Blue Cross since they are the major providers at MCW but get a higher deductable. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?•••••I have bluecross in Canada, it's my Dad's plan but I'm not sure if I can transfer that to the US. 140/month does seem steep, I only pay about 36/month (CAD) right now, but of course it's a socialistic system up here. Do you guys know what the insurance rate you guys are paying is right now?

Hello y'all!

What's all this about receiving a health insurance packet? Has everyone (i.e. - MCW Class of 2006) received this packet already? I have yet to receive one...do I have to request it?

Also, do any of you mind stating which lender you chose (i.e. - US Bank, Bank One, etc.)? Is there really that much of a difference between the lenders MCW recommended?

Finally, when must I have absolutely all my financial aid stuff turned in?

What number am I thinking of?

-Sauce, MCW Class of 2006

p.s. - $140-a-month for health insurance...yikes. I've been spoiled by my employer this past year (they paid the monthly!)

Although the hlth ins. seems expensive, it could be a great deal worse. Also the financial aid includes the cost of the insurance premium. Yeah I know MORE DEBT. Oh well. Thats the price we pay.

HI Saucy,

I'm in california and I recently got the two packets, one has the insurance info and the other has the orientation info....wait 2 more days and if u dont have it...then contact the school!

best of luck

hey everybody,

how is MCW? like, the setting? big city? im from san jose, ca....so i love city life. how are the academics? how hard is to get into? thanks!!

silver,

I was born & raised in "San Ho"...South Bay, baby!

So you think of San Jose as a city? Population wise, it is a city, but to me, it doesn't really feel like a city (Downtown San Jose is a joke). I think of San Jose as an Uber-suburb of Frisco.

I liked Milwaukee...based on my four days spent there looking for an apartment. Even though it has less people than San Jose, I thought of Milwaukee to be more of a city than San Jose. Don't ask me why...it just felt more like a true city. However, you'll be happy to know that the traffic is far less than that of the Bay Area (as well as most of California).

Of course, I'll still miss the weather. San Jose's no San Diego or Santa Barbara, but you can't go wrong with San Jose weather.

Any of you guys going to the Milwaukee Zoo and some of the other outings they have planned? Seems like a full week of activities.

Thanks for your help.

Anyone know anything about this AMS tuition pay service that MCW has? Supposedly you pay your tuition over 10 months with no interest. Is this legit? Are there any hiddenfees other than the 50 dollars you cough up per year?

I will be joining you guys. Any suggestions on where to live? I'm also looking for a roommate!
