I thought it sucked. Give me "ER" anyday. It seemed like a layman wrote the script here, the medical situations seemed naive and contrived. The plot was stupid, the hero looked inept in his role, and the whole premise of the NIH being this super agency was just terrible.

Nothing quite like the 1995 to 1998 seasons of ER. Quite easily the best serial ever made imho

I love ER 😍 😍 😍

heh it's only 9 45 over here but anyhow although i still haven't seen this show, the show that i personally think that sucks the most is chicago hope 👎 , i don't even know how it lasted five years.

heh my 2 pennies

Anyone know how medically accurate the show is? does the NIH actually own any helicopters?
i wish they explained in more detail about what the diseases/treatments are.

I personally didn't think the show was that bad. It was pretty interesting but i think they should explain what the heck the disease was. they just explained it in a hurry, didn't really catch it.

I think ER is a bigger piece of crap.

Hands down.

I dont think NIH does the tracking of diseases and other stuff that they showed. Thats the job if CDC (center for disease and control), the one thats located in atlanta
I dont know know exactly how NIH is invoved with the public, but i do know that they have an amazing library on all the diseases and treatment

exactly, it shoukd been the CDC, not the NIH involved. in that sense Robin Cook's medical mysteries are more accurate

It wasn't that bad, but BLUE people!! Nothing can be worse than scrubs, though. That is the worst ever!!!!!!!!! ER is definitely more realistic...

Definitely NOT!! That junk is HORRIBLE!! It's like high school or better yet, middle school people going to med school. It's very unrealistic.

Ur right. My wife used to work at NIH and she laughing through the whole show. NIH does the research, and CDC does the stuff these guys were doing on the show.
p.s. They dont airlift physicians out of NIH

Lighten up. Its a comedy not a realistic drama like ER. Its not meant to be realistic. Thats what ER is for.

I work at the NIH and initially thought that the CDC and NIH were linked. However, CDC and the NIH are meerly collaborative entities under the hospices of the Department for HEalth and Human services. I was suprised to hear this. I asked my PI and he said the CDC is analogous to the Allergy and Infectious Disease Institute at NIH. Rarely would NIH be involved in such a time-sensitive public health crisis, unless it was an extremely rare case such as the one presented on MI last night. I agree that the show sucked! Definately not geared towards the same audience as ER. I was really disappointed that MI wasn't better scripted and more realistic. But hey, that's Holloywood.

Osteogenesis imperfecta? (brittle bone DZ. )cmon. that baby would have been dead way before then. It would have been diagnosed at birth cos it would have brocken all its bones during delivery. rare as it may be, they would have caught that at birth, i think.
And like the NIH has time to go examine a baby whose parents are being accused of abuse.
PLEASE.

Check out this very interesting article, Doctors Without Behavioral Borders, for an NIH insider's perspective on MI. The author, Harold Varmus, was NIH director for 6 years, and he talks about the real case that inspired the MI pilot. He also really rips into the show.

dude I don't think scrubs is really going for realistic...

My girlfriend is an epidemiologist and she was laughing too. It was pretty cool, though. She knew what was happening to them and has a probably correct guess as to what the next show is about.

The show is loosely based on the CDC's EIS (Epidemic Intelligence Service ). And no, they don't have big black helicopters that fly them around everywhere, although I think Tommy Thompson wants it to be more like that (a la "Outbreak"). He's a big advocate of turning the EIS into a para-military-esque unit. *****.

Here's an interesting article by the AMA.
