I was finishing up a research paper this morning when I stumbled upon this gem. It's a web site used as an advertising platform for greasy attorneys.

Most of the claims made here are either non-cited statistics (i.e., made-up) or taken out of context and manipulated in some way to fit the "all doctors are incompetent and out to get you" mentality. The language and grammar can be pretty funny at times, too.

I just thought I'd share this for all of you taking a break from studying. My personal favorite is #7.

Enjoy

Yeah, that one is pretty bad. I just re-read #10 and about died-- it says that abuse of stock cocaine in hospitals is a problem among doctors. I think any hospital that still carries pharmaceutical grade cocaine for injection as a local anesthetic has it as a 4% solution and in limited quantity. Nice try lawyer guys :D

Ugh...I wish there were more public education initiatives about the medical profession and what the entire system/process entails. Also calibrated so the information is understandable at the 4th grade reading level.

9. Two studies surveyed residents to determine the incidence of substance use. Recent alcohol use was extremely high in both groups (87% within the last year for emergency medicine residents; 74% within the past 30 days for surgery residents).Additional findings proved extremely disturbing; although the emergency medicine program directors accurately determined the incidence of alcohol use amongst residents, they dramatically underestimated the percent who were actually impaired by the substance as indicated by diagnostic tests (1% estimate impaired vs. 13% diagnosed.)

i dont get it. are these surgeons under age or do they believe it takes more than 30 days for alcohol to leave their system? is alcohol still legal? i think i'm missing something.

6. Medical students at SUNY-Buffalo were asked to recall incidents during their clinical training that raised ethical concerns. More than 200 students responded (40% of total sample); the majority of instances they reported (60%) did not in the researchers’ opinions threaten the patient’s life, health or welfare. This, however, implies that potentially 40% did.
