So supposedly Symbian OS is the "most popular mobile phone operating system"
according to several websites and articles I have read. Any ways I recently got a new phone that runs Symbian OS and I have been trying to look for free medical programs for it. Unfortunately Epocrates does not currently run with Symbian, which is unfortunate for me. It is strange since Symbian is supposedly so popular. Any one know of any programs that are freeware that will run with Symbian?

I think it might be the most popular in Europe and other non US areas. Also, they are probably counting mobile phones rather than PDAs. It certainly isn't the most popular here in the US.

I would not hold my breath for any medical software to come along. Palm OS, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and iPhone are already too many platforms for most niche software developers, like medical, to support.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I figured odds of finding some decent medical programs would be difficult, especially with the popularity of Blackberry's, Windows OS and iPhone.

I came across a website that mentioned you can't run apps made for one OS on another unless you have an emulator. Anyone have experience with running an emulator on a mobile phone OS? Worth trying?

There was something about Styletap coming out "soon" for Symbian phones back in August ( http://palmdoc.net/?p=1782 ), but I haven't heard anything since then.

Thanks so much for the link. I will have to look into that some more and keep my eyes open to see if there is anything else that has come out. I might give that a shot.

StyleTap is great software. However, running an emulator on a PDA or other mobile device is really not ideal. PDA apps are highly customized to the screen size, input method, and other ergonomic chracteristics of the device. If your screen is limited to 2.5 to 4 inches diagonal, wouldn't you want to use the whole screen?

Look to buy a mobile device that runs what you want natively. I would only consider an emulator if I already had the wrong device.
