Just a question out of curiosity?

what is the application numbers out there? are students still applying to med school in droves. Last I heard applications were way, way down becasue of the political nature of whats going on in the field. coupled with the fact that they are projecting a doctor shortage and ramping up the slots in med schools DO and MD. are you guys finding it a little easier getting into med school? what are the actual numbers? anyone know?

i would say that conservatively, the vast majority of those seeking to become medical professionals couldn't give less of a flying pig about the econo-political implications and potential ramifications of the present-day. in short, applications are increasing on a yearly basis and competition for spots isn't decreasing as a result. even with the plans toward expansion (which will likely be marginal at best), this exceptional degree of competition toward a career in the field will not decrease.

Applications were down during the late nineties with the tech boom (as was most of healthcare fields during that time) but has rebounded the last few years (including last year). However, the quality of applicants have steadily increased with higher MCAT and GPA stats for matriculants. Higher GPA could just mean grade inflation but higher MCAT scores is not so easily explained.
