Has anyone else had their med school list changed by AMCAS? My husband and I were both charged for the University of Cincinnati, but today when I looked, the school was deleted from BOTH of our lists!?! I can't find anything on Cinci's website as to why this would happen. Has anyone else run into this? Any commiseration would be appreciated...

someone else posted in another thread that this is a new glitch with the application. i noticed that SIX schools had been deleted from my list. i'm not going to worry about it; i know which and how many schools i paid for and i'm just going to assume that this is a problem with the printing of the application, not the actual information that AMCAS has regarding the schools we're interested in.

OMG!!!! They deleted five of my schools too!!! WHAT THE HELL'S GOING ON HERE!?!?!?!?!!?

Same here. I havent submitted my application yet. Last week, I had 22 schools on my list. I was trying to add a school today and there were only 15 schools on my list. My comp is super slow and its gonna take me another hour to add 7 more schools. Just when you think they're getting better, AMCAS finds another way to annoy us.

those AAMCAS idiots...i know four very competent network and serve specialist and AAMCAS can't even find one!!!!i'm missing GWU, Gtown and Loma linda!!!...hope is just a printing problem and all the info is still in some server that got damaged by the rain they had down there in mid june....

5 of mine were missing too... lets post which schools are missing to see if there is some correlation. The schools that were stripped from mine were:

George Washington
Georgetown
Loma Linda
St. Louis University
Tufts University

What schools are you guys missing now?

Brazilmed, I'm missing those exact schools too (plus two more). I'm thinking AMCAS just deleted those schools among others from EVERYBODY'S file, so no need to worry... yet.

WTF?!! I've lost 6 schools since I logged into AMCAS this morning to check on my app! I saw that I'm down 6 schools and I started to freak but kept telling myself "it's just a print error" but when I went to the "designate schools" link the schools aren't there any more! I know it's not because they started transmission or something, because my app isn't even "processed" yet. I'm going to call those cretins tomorrow to see what's going on and report what they say about this.

Yup, Baylor, I'm missing Tufts too...

Hey baylor21, here's my MIA list:

Cinci
Tufts
GWU
Georgetown
SLU
UMDNJ-NJMS

Seems to be a pattern, I wonder what the heck is going on...

Definitely a pattern:

U of Cinci
Tufts
GWU
Georgetown
SLU

Just prior to submitting Monday evening I noticed that GW and Georgetown were missing from my list. Fortunately, I caught it and added them back in.

Is there anybody that has noticed if any of the schools noted above are still listed on their AMCAS app (without resubmitting)?

Boston
Tufts
George Washington
Georgetown
St. Louis

I'm noticing a pattern here.

Everyone please email AMCAS and tell your friends to do the same so they fix this quick.

Boston U
GWU
GTown
Tufts
Loma Linda

Should we worry????

DON'T EMAIL AMCAS!!!
JEeZ!
They are going to get so many damn emails it won't even matter. You want to slow the process up some more so we never get our apps sent in????
Just sit back and chill out!
Drink a beer,
Sip on some wine,
Pound some shots...
I don't care..just chill...
go read a book...don't email AMCAS with petty worries. I am sure they know they f'ed up and now they are going to fix it later. If they want you to email them about the schools you lost, they will ask you in an email or on their webpage...
Chill.......
Imagine an igloo....
:D

GWU
Georgetown
SLU

I'm an IT major, maybe med schools will accept me just so I can help them come application time. :)

I added the 3 schools AMCAS deleted, and now my balance is showing $210. I already paid them once, not a chance in hell they are getting any more of my money. Should we resumbit after adding the schools that were deleted or will this screw up our first app that was submitted?

relax! if everyone is missing the same schools off their lists (i'm also missing GWU, georgetown, SLU, BU, tufts, and some other school i'm not remembering at the moment), then it has to just be a universal glitch with the printed app. it doesn't make sense that everyone either suddenly is not allowed to apply to these schools or has to pay twice as much. DON'T resubmit--i think you're just going to make this problem even more complicated.

I hear you sandflea. I'm much relieved to see that other people are missing the exact schools I am, and I say just wait it out. AMCAS is bound to fix it sooner or later. Resubmission is a bad idea: (1)it complicates things, and (2)that would require giving AMCAS more money, which is about as appealing to me as crawling through broken glass.

Luckily, I didn't list any of those schools that are missing.
My premed adviser mass emailed students regarding this matter.
Maybe, they are withdrawing from AMCAS?

Nah, I'm not gonna resubmit. Everyone's missing the same schools so I guess AMCAS will figure it out eventually. If they don't I guess GWU, SLU, and Georgetown, among others will have their head on a platter. I'm guessing this is one of the main glitches keeping AMCAS from transmitting our applications to med schools. What the hell was AMCAS thinking when they decided to put up 1 server to handle 40,000 applications? Not to mention the fact that such an interactive interface is going to overwhelm the system. You pretty much have to click something for every little change. For example, when you're sorting your classes in the coursework section by clicking on those yellow up and down arrows. That has got to be the biggest waste of bandwith I have ever seen. I mean, why not just let us designate in a separate field next to each course what position we would like it to appear in? Simply little things like this would make the application much more efficient, and their servers wouldn't be overwhelmed as easily. The 3 servers they have now are more equipped to handle the demand, but the programming glitches remain.

I agree with you. I'm no IT major but being in electrical/computer engineering I have been exposed to my fair share of web programming (HTML, DHTML, Java). The AMCAS people should have looked at the design of the Texas web application. Its much less user interactive which frees up extra bandwidth to allow more simultaneous connections and reduces the transit time for the TCP/IP packets.

I thought that this phenomena might mean that these schools are dropping AMCAS. However, I noticed that SLU redesigned their web site just a few days ago, and on the updated site it still says they are participating with AMCAS.

Oh well, AMCAS damn sure better give me a partial refund if I have to submit transcripts and all the other crap to these schools.

Missing SLU and GWU.

This is just a mess. Like a big nasty train wreck.

just to go along with everyone else...amcas deleted 5 of my schools...BU, Tufts, SLU, GW, Georgetown. i'm going to the websites right now to see if the schools decided to bypass amcas and just post apps online or what. i'll let you guys know

I've had the same problem too, but I noticed that the names are not just deleted from the print window, but also from the part of the application where we officially enter the them. Anyone else like this? At least my balance is $0 :)

Okay I am missing 3:
Georgetown (DC)
Loma Linda (CA)
Tufts (MA)

These were listed on the printout I made the day I certified (7/7) but are gone today.

i'm also missing some schools mentioned above. wouldn't worry about it. just keep track of what's missing. i'm sure they'll figure it out.

Over here I am missing 6 schools all previously mentioned. I say sit tight. They will fix it all.

I spoke with a woman at AMCAS this morning and she said that what is on the printed app should be right (yeah whatever), and instructed me to email her supervisor directly. They're also missing my undergrad transcript, and she said she'd get back to me today, and no email...
I think as long as it is the same schools, we should wait it out and not resubmit. Thanks everyone, for coming to the stress rescue!!! Good luck & I hope to see you all at CME conferences!!!

Check this out: I just logged into AMCAS, and my 6 missing schools that I mentioned are all back, on the printout and in the "designate schools" thing. I didn't get an email from AMCAS, so I guess they're just on the ball. Anyone else have such luck?

One of the missing schools is back on mine (BU) the other 5 are still missing. Hm.

Spang

Woohoo! I just checked my designated medical schools, and both of my missing schools have magically reappeared (George Washington, and Georgetown). Hopefully they have resolved this issue, and no more of my schools will vanish..

Word.

Glad to hear that the missing schools are starting to come back. Those AMCAS guys sure have a sick sense of humor...

Yes,
I will be in charge of financial decisions for AMCAS FC.
Everyone must send me 100 dollars via paypal for membership activation.

Checked mine today and all 5 schools were back on the list.

None of mine are back. I think I'll just twiddle my thumbs and wait it out. This is so annoying. That graemlin is SO useful at times like these.

praying4MD,

Check out the following email I just received... looks like it should be fixed soon hopefully.

Dear AMCAS Applicant,

An error recently occurred in the AMCAS application that temporarily
removed one or more of the ten (10) medical schools (see below) from
affected applicants' applications. This error was the result of a human
mistake. 90% of these records have already been corrected, and we will
correct the remaining 10% as quickly as possible. Applicants do not need
to take any action to resolve this issue, and no applicant data will be
lost as a result of this error. Applicants who noticed this error,
re-designated these schools and submitted payment have not been charged.

The designations affected by this problem involved the following 10
schools:

1) 143 Loma Linda University School of Medicine
2) 122 Georgetown University School of Medicine
3) 123 The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health
Sciences
4) 105 Boston University School of Medicine
5) 175 Tufts University School of Medicine
6) 145 University of Michigan Medical School
7) 164 Saint Louis University School of Medicine
8) 170 UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School
9) 112 University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
10) 829 Ponce School of Medicine

Thanks for your patience, and best wishes in your medical school
admissions process.

AMCAS

Thanks for the info Baylor21. It calms my nerves a little and my twiddling will slow now so that I can utilize the energy towards secondaries. :)
