Anesthesiology is one of the specialty interests I have, surgery being another.

I was wondering if someone could provide some ideas for electives that would:
- help me to better understand the different roles of anesthesiologists
- challenge me in this area
- benefit me academically should I end up pursuing anesthesiology
- provide me with possible LORs for applying to anesthesiology

Thanks for any input.

Cardiothoracic ICU or SICU sounds like a good start for you. Especially in a place where anesthesia runs the ICU

You could also try OB Anesthesia. For the most part it's very different from "regular OR" aneshetesia. When I did it as a med student, I got to do a whole lot and got completely comfortable with spinals and epidurals. It really was a great experience and I really reccomend it to any med studnet intersted in anesthesia. Good luck.....
