Hi there. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about studying Medicine at Auckalnd, NZ. How is it compared to Oz school, and what's the deal with staying and practicing Medicine there? (... currently I hold only canadian citizenship). It seems like a good school and very beutiful place, plus a bit competitive since it is the only NZ Med School that takes int'l student, no MCATs required, and much cheaper than Oz!

Any feedback is wellcome! :)

Hi, I'm in my 5th year (out of 6) at Auckland medical school at the moment.
I think the structure of the course and general entry requirements are pretty similar to the schools in Oz. There isn't a 4 year graduate course at the moment, but most people can get direct entry into the 2nd year of the 6 year course, so you end up doing 2 pre-clinical years and 3 clinical

Of course NZ is a much better place to live than Australia, and we have a much better rugby team and nicer people

I'm not sure about working if you're not a NZ citizen - I think you would have had time to get citizenship by the time you graduate so there should be no prob, otherwise you would be able to work, but would get last preference for any intern jobs - ie all NZ citizens would be placed in jobs PGY1 before overseas citizens
