Trying to decide if you want to do medicine?

If you think you'll have a lifestyle anything like an investment banker, you're clearly out of your mind..

Lo and Behold.. a 23 yr old w/ Porsche, investment banker's lifestyle:

I assure you, nobody in med school lives like this, nor residency.. And lets think what models like..

People with MDs can have an investment banker lifestyle... But it's not through practicing medicine. Physician entrepeneurship is critical to building signiciant wealth as a doctor. However, you don't learn these valuable skills in medical school...

Or better yet, some people don't give a flying crap about owning a porsche at 23 or marrying a model and living a freaking boring life behind a desk....

**GASP from the crowd.**

Life in the fast lane ... little does he realize the model is trying to steal everything away from him ... I've seen it happen.

Kudos to those who want this life, I know many who were miserable and left it by the age of 25.

An IB guy with only a Coxster? Opps, I mean Boxster. 😉 Who cares. Would it make you feel better if I don't have a car that costs that much?

You'd figure he'd at least splurge on a 911, but he likes "hot guys" so what do I know. 🙄

Wooooooow!!!! mshheaddoc how in world do you have so many freakin' post!!😱 Seem's like in four years that youv'e been on, SDN's been your home lol.....😀

Thank you for this incredibly insightful point of information... I never had thought of med school or residency like that. 🙄

We all know that Investment Bankers have the potential to make a ton of money and live like rockstars. But lets face it, iBanking is a pretty skeezy field. it's all about shmoozing, wining and dining, and in many cases, screwing people over. Frankly, let them have their money. I'll take medicine any day of the week.

For a second there I thought you were talking about physicians and drug reps 🙂

haha, well drug reps do the shmoozing, not the physicians, right?

The car doesn't exactly signify the IB lifestyle, most doctors who aren't PCP's can swing such a thing once they are done training (granted a lot older). The IB lifestyle is more about going on weekender vacations to exotic and distant locations, owning multiple homes, and throwing money at looking like you have good taste.

Funny thing ... I don't know many people in IB that actually have the CHANCE for vacations ... at least not for the first 10 years of employment until partner. But wait, it depends on what aspect of IB you work in as well.

I say if you can deal with taking care of money your whole life🙂sleep🙂, go for the finance and live like a rock star 👍

High Finance will always be a more lucrative field than Medicine. Always, but especially in this era of managed care, there is just a lot more money to throw around in Finance. Think about it, i-banks get about 10% of every company that wants to be publicly traded. They bring them to market, and take their 10% cut. Can you imagine owning 10% of every company on the New York Stock Exchange? That's the i-banking industry.

Medicine is a more noble field, that people respect greatly. But no one ever promised a pot of gold for being a doctor. If anyone is expecting that here, they won't get it.
