Greetings,

I am applying to d-school next year, for fall '06. My dentist recommended that I meet with one of her colleagues at BU. I called BU, and it just so happens he's a professor, dmd, and "is very active in admissions committee"!!! Ah, so now I'm kind of scared, even though I'm just "meeting him," talking to him, probably informal, but just scared because he's on the ad-com. So.. any pointers for me? B/c he said to bring questions, and I do have questions .. but I don't want him to think I've done no research about d-school and think I'm stupid.. Any advice? Or what else I can talk about with him?

Thanks a bunch!

All you can do is your best. I would get some info on the school, start shadowing if you havnt already, and get some experience so you have something to talk about. Dont worry if you've just started down the dentistry path, he'll understand that. Just do your best to learn about the profession and act interested. You'll be fine.

That's awesome! Do your research and dig deeper than the cursory information which can be quickly culled from their website and other official sites. I would suggest that you formulate some questions which can communicate your understanding of their program and give him a chance to demonstrate his knowledge and praise his school. For example, you could seek information about some of their research programs, their simulation center, ways they promote and support their students after they have graduated (almuni stuff), and the like. Also, be sure to ask open-ended questions which will allow him to elaborate on his responses - this might lead to some friendly discussion which bodes well for you. I'm envious of your lead! Best of luck!
