Lets say for example you scored the 97th percentile on COMLEX-I. Since many program do not know how to interpret the COMLEX score, would mentioning your percentile on your personal statement be appropriate and helpful in demonstrating on the competiveness of your application?

'Sup to you, shizzle-fizzle. I scored about as well, but didnt' mention it, still got tons of offers. One thing that you should do (Chris_Topher gets credit) is to bring in a copy of your COMLEX score and mention "In case you didnt' call the NBOME, here is a report of my Step 1 score." The programs will know a good score when you see it, no need to bring it up again, IMHO.

thanks hopefully I did as well on Step 2 as 1 so I can bring that up as well.

Thanks for the reference, Q-NSU. Nice to see my name in lights.

I would ask the PD if they were able to interpert the COMLEX score, and mention that there is an associated percentile score for ease of interpertation. This would bring up an excellent opportunity to mention said percentile score. I did carry an actual copy of my COMLEX score report and offer them a copy for my file, as the transmitted information is quite different from the paper report.

Q-NSU - surviving internship? Every time I start to feel comfortable with what is going on, I get knocked down again. Kinda reminds me of 1st year medical school.

Internship is going ok... I can't believe almost three months has gone by! Crazy. I am doing Ward Medicine this month... so my month has been pretty low key (just 4-6 admissions a call night, not too bad), and our rounds are lightning fast, thanks to an attending who trusts his resident/interns.

I did CCU last month... you're right, every time I thought I had the hang of it something reared its ugly head (like DC'ing someone with Class III CHF without Lasix... needless to say they were back in a week). I don't feel so bad about the little slip ups like that (that are huge grounds for negligence)... several interns have told me they forgot to DC patients on coumadin or didn't send someone to the cath lab in time (let them infarct in the Chest Pain Center). I guess its just part of internship, you know? What's really scary is some of these 3rd and 4th year students are whooping my ass when it comes to certain topics. I really should read up more...

Don't worry. We all made those kinds of mistakes in internship. Your upper-levels are supposed to catch those mistakes.
