Just wondering if anyone knows whether these members of the Partners medical conglomerate communicate at all over recruitment. In other words, has anyone gotten a ranked-to-match call/email from mulitple hospitals? Or do they strategerize so as to not compete for the same residents?

Technically I believe different residency programs are not allowed to discuss the applicants between themselves. Not that they would anyway as I am sure the more desirable candidates look equally desirable to both places, and also since these are the best medicine programs in Boston, they won't have a shortage of excellent applicants for either program.

I actually would be surprised if they did not communicate together. I know from a PD at one the major NY programs that the NY programs talk about applicants, though which and what i have no idea. The PD also talks to some other PD's in the country as well. What effect this has on ranking I do not know, but I wouldn't, for instance, tell two boston programs they are my number 1.

No. They do no such thing. Of course they compete for the same residents.

Yea I doubt they call each other. I got nods from both. MGH and BWH are competing for very different types of people anyway. I think people tend to sort out based on personality and fit, not strength of program.

By virtue of being in the same geographical location, they are bound to compete for the same residents. Yes different types of people may be attracted toward one program vs another but the competition for the same pool of students is very real.
