Mha Uic

I did my MPH there, but I know a few people that did the MHA. I don't know how much you know about the program at UIC, but here are a couple of things--

It's a fairly new degree at UIC--I think they started the MHA training a couple of years ago.

From what I hear, does a pretty good job of integrating classes at the graduate business school with the school of public health. In that sense it is quite different than the Health Policy and Administration track of the MPH. It also makes it much more business oriented.

The entrepreneur program at the business school is one of the top in the country. Quite a few of their projects have been healthcare oriented, and they have won national awards over the past few years. I don't know if you are at all interested in entrepreneurship or not.

PM me if you have any specific or general questions and I might be able to help you out.

I have heard good things about the UIC MPH, and also about their School of Public Health in general. However, I, too, applied to MHA programs and didn't apply to UIC because the program is not yet accredited (last time I checked, it's been a few months.) I think if you plan on staying in Chicago or that region it won't be a major problem, but if you plan on moving it could be an issue that the program you graduated from is not accredited.

It's a shame, because I love Chicago and wanted to live there but I can't justify the potential long-term problems.

But, again, I'm sure it's a solid program. Think about where you would want to be in the future and go from there...good luck!! 🙂

I'm pretty sure UIC is going through reaccreditation right now, which is something all schools have to go through every few years. This might mean that the program is now, or soon will be, accredited.

This is very true, I didn't think about this. I'm sure UIC's MHA will be accredited in the next round of reviews, but I was just concerned about the relative new-ness of the program. I think alumni networks are important at the graduate level, and *personally* I don't think it would be worthwhile for someone who, say, wants to move to the East or West coast. But if I were from the Midwest and/or planned on staying around that area I would have definitely applied to UIC. I'm sure the MHA program will be highly recognized by Chicago-area hospitals, for example.
