This is the week for U of Miami, right?

When you guys here something, please post right away so I can call you bad names when they mail me the letter to tell me i am on the waitlist.
 
I'm so sick of waiting that I'm already numb with the entire process. Since they have put me on hold for so long that they've probably forgotten about me, I'll be the one put on the official waitlist, and I'll call you bad names. But, I'll try to contain myself for you Blame. :wink:

Nervous? Nah, not really. It's just med school. :wink: At least we'll all know our fates soon. Anyone know if Hinkley is calling this round or just sending out letters? I'd imagine with the number of acceptances that'll probably be going out, that he'd he hard pressed to call everyone.

PS: Let us know how orientation at FSU goes this week BIOTN. Good luck everybody!

Hinkley has never and will never call any Florida residents that are accepted. I think he only calls outta staters (aria111 comes to mind). Prior to this year, I had never heard of him calling anyone (even though he says that he does). Actually, even a student on my interview day said that that was bull. You just get a letter in the mail. And with the number of acceptances supposedly going out this week, I seriously doubt he would do it now.

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but I got an alternate list letter from UM today saying "Although your application for admission recieved a high rating, the class is temporarily full . As a consequense, we must place you on the alternate list". So they say the class is full, I don't know how true this is. Maybe there are a bunch of acceptances in the mail too, and those are filling the class. Good luck everyone.
 
I finally heard something from Miami, as well. I think I got the same letter that you did, Faerichilde. Mine was postmarked March 9th, and said that said I was put on the alternate list. Mine also said that the class is temporarily full. It might not be what I wanted to hear, but at least it is news!

Faerichilde, are you an out-of-state applicant? I am. I wonder if they are putting more out-of-state people on the alternate list?

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting. Maybe they sent out the letters to the alternates before they sent the letters to the acceptees...
 
March 9 or April 9? mine was postmarked April 9. Anyway, I am a FL resident, so I don't know whether that has anything to do with it.

If the class is full already, then why is there supposed to be a big meeting on the 19th to decide on the deferred candidates? This definately worries me.
 
I haven't received anything, and I live 15 minutes from Jackson Memorial. If they mailed me something, I should have received it by now. I have a feeling that they only sent out the alternate lists. Faerichilde, did they send it to your Florida address or to the address of your school (outside of Florida)? Cavey, have you heard anything? I never thought I would say this, but if they are sending out alternate lists, please let the mail not come tomorrow!!! :wink:

Ok, who the hell did they accept that the class is now temporarily full? They deferred everybody and their momma, how the hell is the class full? And what exactly does temporarily full mean anyway? Like, enough acceptances have been offered as there are seats? My God, somebody tell me this isn't happening. Not to my #1 school. And what abt all the deferred applicants? Anybody out there know what's going on? 8deuce, you got any inside info? What abt the big meeting on the 19th for all the deferred applicants? Are those all just waitlist letters waiting to go out?
 
Alright, somebody help me figure this out. UM interviews about 300 for a class of 150. Everybody that I know of that interviewed early was pretty much deferred. Could they have really filled the class w/o going back to all those that they've deferred? That's a lotta qualified applicants that they'd be giving up. These alternate lists letters say the class is temporarily full. Does that mean that they've already sent out 150 acceptances? Would they really send out alternates b4 sending out all their acceptances? I'm just having a hard time believing that the class is freaking full!! And also, they don't reject anybody till the very end do they? Ah, the waiting is killing me!!!!

I think that Luke is right when he says that they may be looking first at the bottom. Maybe they have already determined that these applicants won't get in the first go-round, so they put them already in the alternate list. They may be cutting down on the number of applicants they have to review on April 19. I also have a hard time believing that they filled their class up already, when you eloquently put it "they deferred everybody and their momma." (cute :wink: ) I believe you are also correct in assuming that they don't reject anybody until the very end. So, calm down Papi. You and me will be chilling at UM this time next year. 😀
P.S. Where the hell is my other guy Cavey? Don't tell me you heard some bad news. 🙁

Just wanted to let everyone know that i got an acceptance letter in the mail today...

NOT...still nothing... and i am confused...

For those who got letters saying waitlist...did anyone call UM and ask them what was up?

Please, somebody call and see what the deal is. For those who've yet to hear anything at all or have been deferred for a few months, is an alternate spot the best they can hope for? I'd call, but the secretaries don't like me, or at least that's the impression that I got.

Those secretaries don't like anybody. The few times I've called they have given me attitude. When I ask them to please check the status of my application, they always reply with a snide remark. 😡 They give me the impression that they think I'm pretty dumb, since I haven't gotten in after so many months on the deferral list. I refuse to call and give them the satisfaction of telling me once again: your status hasn't changed. Blame, have you called?

I'm pretty sure that miami doesn't send out pre-interview rejections, unless you don't meet their minimum requirements, in which case you would not have received a secondary. I'm in the same boat as you, I still haven't heard from them and I don't know if they are going to give anymore interviews. I hope the meeting on the 19th is also to offer some more interviews. I would be willing to do what Blameitonthenurse did at his interview just to get an acceptance. :wink:

Papi, no mail here either.

Magellan, April 19 will be the last day of interviewing in Miami. Everyone who has not gotten an interview will receive a rejection letter. So, I would be expecting that rejection letter in the mail next week or the following week at the latest. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I think it is better to hear the truth than harboring any false hope.

Why are you so damn pessimistic? 😡 You are starting to freak me out and make me worry. Why do you think it will be a rejection letter? Miami doesn't reject anyone till classes start. Just sit tight and try to be a little more optimistic (my mom would get a kick out of this if she knew that for once I'm being optimistic 😀 ). Anyway, if we don't get in (hopefully we will), I'll see you at USF. As of now, I'm going there. Later.

Hey everyone...i need you to post whenever UM sends out info...

Listen to this...my parents are leaving town today and some neighbor is picking up the mail... so if you let me know if UM sent stuff out..i will call him to get my rejection letter... otherwise, i will have to wait another week or so.

Papa, the FSU orientation went well...we had a lil fish fry up there and a lil drinking party.
Some cool people up there...they told me this:
That the faculty at FSU rocks...this is their proof---the anatomy prof writes questions for the USMLE and another professor is the author of A++..the #1 study book for USMLE...and many other profs w/teacher awards many yrs in a row...

But doesn't every school have awesome profs..?
i just want to know if you think that is grounds for going to a school...+ they told me that they took the step 1 for anatomy section and they scored better that UF...i dont know if that is good since i heard that UF students had difficulty passing boards...

I just feel that FSU will get accredited and it is alot cheaper than UM...any suggestions if i get into both schools...
they say that residency is based on your usmle score and your ranking at your med school and by letters of rec.---so does it matter if i go to a no-name school?

here is my real dilemma...UM has the dark skinned women...
but FSU has some med students that are all about intramural sports and partying...tough call
 
Who's got thaughts on UM. i just don't believe that they could go over EVERYONE in ONE day!! maybe they'll be meeting on monday and tuesday too. well, probably not, but how do you review so many apps in one freakin' day!

Plus, when i called on Wednesday, they told me my app was still in the review process (specifically, this means that Some had reviewed my file and written their comment, and some had yet to review it). now if that was where i stood on Wedensday, is it possible that by friday morning i had already been reviewed by everyone and (probably being deferred) was sent to the BIG FRIDAY MEETING we all believe took place?? cuz i think it's unlikely that they finished me in the nick of time like that. is it possible that they're meeting again? and also, if they interviewd on that day, then what happens to those people? does the committee wait till they finish the interview day and goes over their file at the end of the day to include them in the big decision?? or do they wait until the monday meeting that i'm currently making up, which i might end up in too?

Cavey!!! I haven't heard from you in ages. Where have you been? Personally, I think that all of those that were interviewed on Friday are going straight to the waitlist pile. And about them reviewing everybody yesterday, I don't buy it. I think that they have moved many people to the waitlist pile. Some evidence of this may be seen in the recent alternate letters that some SDN members received this week. Hopefully, not getting any mail at this point is a good thing. We might still be in the running. Then again, I may just be hopeful. We should be hearing something this week. Good luck everyone and post if you hear anything.

about the ones that have been waitlisted...who are they..are they as good applicants as you, papasmurf and me? because if not (stat wise) then we ARE in the running.
 
actually i just noticed that the ones who received the alternate letters are out-of-state applicants (right?). i think the girl from Boise is out-of-state, i don't know about the one from MA. but it's plausible that they alternate listed them, and are further considering us instaters. no?
 
The one from MA is a Florida resident. And the one from Boise (Ida is a guy, by the way) is an out-state applicant.
 
Oh, I forgot to add. I am not sure how they compare stat-wise.

Cavey, Ida almost never posts here, and he got into another school, but Miami is his #1 choice. All I know about the girl at MA is that she is on the waitlist at USF.
 
I dunno their stats Cavey. So, what up with the meeting on Friday? Have all our fates been decided? I think imma scream if I got in on Friday, and just took the MCAT today. 😡 My God, I felt violated after that verbal section. It's aight, coz I took apart the PS section, so that should help. Anywayz, the alternate letters said the class was temporarily full. I dunno what to make of that. What you think Cavedogg? U think they said the class was full b/c they knew they'd be accepting a bunch of ppl on the 19th, or was it full b4 they even got to the meeting on the 19th? WHERE IS MY BOY 8DEUCE????
