Hi All,
I'm got an email from Univ. of Michigan this morning and was wondering if anyone else had gotten it/what people's thoughts were. I am a NY resident, and I submitted my AMCAS on 7/31 (still not verified), not planning on appying to Michigan. However, I got this email, and now I'm wondering if I should add them or if this is just a scam to get more applicants and/or money?

Here's what the email said...

"Congratulations on your MCAT performance! With the MCAT behind you, the next step in your journey is deciding where to apply to medical school.
Consider the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. We have only one requirement of our students: excellence. Your MCAT score is only part of the picture. We carefully evaluate each applicant to assess the best fit for both parties. We invite you to take a closer look at what we have to offer:
• Ranked among the top 5 schools by Residency Program Directors across the country (U.S. News and World Report, Best Graduate Schools 2007)—this means a lot coming from the people who will eventually hire you.• Ahead-of-the-curve technology—we set the standard for integrated learning.• Transparent admissions process—we let you know early and often about where you stand.• Every admitted student is eligible for a recruitment scholarship —in fact, we award more grants than any other public medical school.• 98 percent student satisfaction on their residency match—faculty advisors work with you throughout your years of study to get you on the right path.• More than 50 percent of our student body is made up of out-of-state residents—Ann Arbor offers the best of cosmopolitan life within safe walking distance.
Our students were once in the position you are now. They went one step further. We hope you choose to do the same. "

BTW..I got a 30Q on my MCAT, which is good, but not the best score ever, which makes me feel a little more like this was just a mass attempt for more applicants.

Opinions? Thanks!

i got that same letter but i had a 37r

Same e-mail. I dunno what to make of it. Did AMCAS broadcast my MCAT score to all schools or something?

I got that email as well (scored a 35S). I think that my friend got a comparable email from WashU last year (he scored a 38). It seems like just a good way to pull more applicants into your pool, which might make for a better class or a more impressive line about how many people applied to your school.

Got the same e-mail by the way, my MCAT is in low 30s, not stellar by any means.

I think AdComm at Michigan are trying to pump up the number of applicants to their school. You know how all these AdComm people LOVE to brag how they got thousands of applicants for only so many spots, and how competitive applying to their school is, and how they received a record number of applications, blah, blah, blah. :scared:

I don't think they have any interest in us because of our stellar MCATs.

Got one as well. 33P. I always feel special when those types of emails arrive in my inbox until I click on SDN and find everyone and their grandma received one. Heck, my grandma probably got one and she's never even been on the internet.

And I thought I was special.
Umich you arent getting my money

As one of the Adcoms said during a visit to our school, part of her job is to get as many people to apply as possible.

The more applicants, the lower the acceptance rates, the higher their ranking. Remember that the success of the adcoms are judged by the performance of the students and the ranking of the school.

I know WashU also sends out these letters (snail mail).

Yeah, this year, I got two schools from St. Louis (Wash U and one other) and the UMICH.

37S score. so I am special.
