Hello all. I recieved an invitation to interview at Michigan (a place I'd love to attend) this week. I recall threads where people contend that invitations to interview after a certain point in Michigan's interview season are generally interviews for the waitlist. Any thoughts on this? Last year of the 730 kids michigan interviewed, 430 were accepted. Given that 78% of Michigan's acceptance offers have been made (according to their admissions home page), can an applicant interviewing in late Feb assume that he/she will have those kind of odds (430/730)? Please shed some light on this. Thank you for your time!

Can't speak for Michigan specifically but I just interviewed at a school with a similar situation, they flat out told us that while they had spots open that day, by the time they processed the feedback and reviewed our file, it would be likely that the waitlist would be the best possible result.

I would assume this is the same for Michigain at this point, especially given the odds you've quoted and your interview date.

That figure was as of mid-december...I would say by this point they've probably offered at least 85% of the spots. You never know what will happen, but that's the reality.

When I toured @ Michigan last spring with my school's premed club, out M1 host had interviewed on the very last day of interviews at Michigan and received and acceptance shortly thereafter - no waitlist. I don't know how many spots are left, but there are some. Good luck! :luck:

You can get accepted even if you interviewed on the very last day of interviews. Don't worry, they will have spots open for you. Do your best!

I interviewed there January 13th and Mr. Ruiz said they could theoretically admit all 50 interviewees if they wanted to. So they do have spots remaining and you arent interviewing just for the waitlist. Just kick butt and wait for that acceptance movie with Dr. Remick! 🙂

Thanks a lot for your encouraging words and support! I understand that its late, but I have faith.

From what I understand there will be spots open. In fact there will be some spots open even after the last day open from which they will look over people who have been given a defered decision and offer those. Then later on there may be waitlist movement as well of course!

I'm nervous also as it is my top choice!

Been updated on 1/24 and I know 1/13 they interviewed like 50 ppl or a little more (largest interview day for them or 2nd ever) and those should be accounted for as they all heard by the following Thursday at the latest barring any unforseen delay. They will not interview you for the waitlist and if you interview you will have a fair shot! That is all we can ask for. Hopefully good things come to those who wait like the OP and me 🙂 !!
