Hey , How is it going amigos/as??

OK, For next semester I got to choose of of these 2 classes, Microbiology or Introduction to cell Biology. Which class you guys think will help me better in the future ( MCAT)? Which one requires more work? Any Advice???

Gracias,

Eduardo

Even though both are covered on the MCAT, I suggest you take cell bio because you first need to know the basics in order to move on to more advanced topics.

It completely depends - both of those classes are professor-dependent. They can make it pretty easy or really tough - there is no standard way of teaching them. At my university, micro was not so bad but cell bio was absolute hell.

As far as the MCAT goes, I'd take micro - anything you need to know about the cell or cellular signaling you have already gotten in intro bio. There may be stuff on the MCAT, however, that is more detailed than you have seen it so far (esp. the immunology portion of the class).

I enjoyed the Micro lab more but I thought Cell was of greater benefit on the MCAT.

Rxfudd,

That "intro" part threw me off. I was assuming he hasn't taken cell bio. 😕

BTW, thanks for the practice MCATs...you're the greatest!!!

Hi

I took my Intro Bio course already. Actually, the Intro. cell bio its not an upper division. I am just kind of confuse, if I should take the micro or cell bio, what would you guys do?

Eduardo

Didn't intoductory bio cover cell biology? If so, that should be enough for the MCAT. I'm a bit confused as to what level of a class this is...

Well both should be represented about equally on the MCAT. At my school at least, Microbio was much more memorization-heavy than Cell Bio, which was more about experimental design and techniques. So I would choose one or the other depending on if you prefer more memorization or more application/problem-solving.

Here's a better idea -- screw the bio classes and take something other than science!!!! don't worry about taking classes specifically because they will help you on the mcat, because you never know what the mcat will ask questions about! so enjoy your classes, and the basic pre-med should suit you just fine!

I minored in microbiology, but I'd recommend taking cell biology at this point in your career. Plus, some med schools have a cell and molecular biology requirement not fulfilled by introductory biology.

Which schools???? So far as I know, introductory bio is the standard throughout the country (a FEW schools have biochem requirements in addition). Which schools require a cell and molecular bio course???
