Which airport to MWU? Phoenix right?

Any suggestions on hotel stays?

Airport - Sky harbor airport - Phoenix

Hotels - I got lucky and had a family deal so my view on this is skewed. If I were you I would call the schools and see which they are affiliated with and which have shuttles that will drop you off at MWU and pick you up at the airport. You may pay $50 extra but after you factor in transportation costs it ends up being cheaper.

Departing flight - 4pm It takes about half an hour to get from the school to the airport especially if there is any semblance of traffic. Also they might keep you a while at your interview. I know I didn't get out till like 1:30 -2:00 and when you factor traffic, dealing with the rental car (at least in my case), airport security, and other factors its better to have a nice buffer of time.
