Still waiting but now that my massive deposit is in at NYU I may pull my name... i dunno

Everyone keep your hopes up and remember that this list moves a lot. There are less than 100 on the waitlist and ~50 will make it so the odds are in your favor if you have made it this far.

Interviewed on Jan. 6th. A little heads up for you guys, but don't count too much on this info unless you called MWU and confirmed. Dr. Simonsen told us that they're going to make a small movement by later this week. :xf:

This year I heard that our school got a lot more deposits then expected, and that the class is actually almost all filled up.At least thats the word I heard from one of our faculty. Now how many of those are double deposit-ers we don't know, we'll have to see. You also have to factor in that they are interviewing January through March, so waitlisted people are competing with those applicants as well.

Personally I think people that are interviewing right now (January - March) have the upper hand then waitlisted people. Last year I heard some of my classmates got accepted on the day of their interview after their interview was over (post Dec 1st interviews). So from this, I am assuming waitlisted people might have to wait till all the interviews are over. Thats my two cents from my observations, it could be wrong.

I'm not trying to make waitlisted people give up all hope, just trying to give more info of what occured last year, and what possibly to expect.

Good luck to you all!

There are 58 deposits confirmed as of 1/7/09.

What are you talking about?
Are you a current mwu dental student? I think you have totally wrong information.

Yeah, that's what I heard from Dr. Simonsen at my interview on Jan. 6th. He said they received under 60 deposits and there are still about 50 spots are available for us. But still, dental100 could be right bc it's possible that a lot of people waited till the due date and sent their deposits late.

Dental100 is trying to give us info. Thank you! No one knows what's exactly happening there at adcoms unless you are one of them.

That information if from the wonderful office ladies. They stated that those interviewed may hear within a few weeks.

Yes I am a current mwu dental student.

I guess the point I am trying to drive across is that just cause someone is on the waitlist, it doesn't give one good odds of getting accepted. I know plenty of people last year that were on the waitlist that didn't get in. I just observed that most of them were pre-dec 1st interviews, so I made that observation. Just sharing info that I know, which is the point of this site I thought.

I interviewed on Jan. 7th. Does anybody know when the admission committee meets, or when I might know my fate at Midwestern? I received a positive comment from Dr. Polk after the interview. He told me "You should feel very good about your interview". In the meantime, I lay in wait......

I also was told by Dr. Polk that "I should feel very good about my interview". He called me early in the morning on December 1st 🙂

Who is dr. Polk? Does he/she interview every candidate?

jaypea65, can you please share your interview experience at MWU?

This year's interview cycle isn't going like it did last year. They are waiting about 2 weeks before calling anyone after the interviews. Last year, some people were handed acceptances on the spot, not so this year. If your on the waitlist, you have an excellent shot of getting in. There will be calls and moves from now through the summer. Keep in contact with the school as there is no rank to the waitlist! Good luck guys I hope to see you all in the fall!

Dr. Polk is a faculty member on the adcom who is ONE POSSIBLE interviewer. There were several others, he just happened to be the one I was matched with.

Other way around

no...i meant wut i meant. u already have a deposit at nyu but u're still waiting for mwu's offer. so in the case mwu accepts u, there's a chance u might choose mwu over nyu. why?

Its definately something I think Jake 8 should think about in terms of tuition, living expenses, and class size in comparing MWU & NYU.

For other people that are interviewing this year, they are going to interview around 180 more people this year confirmed as of today. Good luck to you all, and ones on the waitlist. I hope to see you guys in the fall too.

There are a lot of things to consider but I will save that until they extend the offer. Till then I have better things to worry about. In the end it could go either way really.

I have heard that there are now over 100 on the alternate list and more may be added with new interviewees. Also I was told that waitlist takes backseat to current interviews and those of us on the waitlist will not hear anything until this round of interviews is over and the period of paying a deposit has passed. I hope this is not true because it seems to put waitlists in a tight spot. I heard this from the admissions office when I called but who knows whether they are even entirely informed? Anyone know anything else or heard anything contray to this most recent info that I have heard would be welcomed.

I interviewed on jan 6 and one of the staff mentioned that they had just pulled someone off the waitlist the day before

Wish it was me that was taken off the waitlist, but I am glad to hear that someone has already made it off.👍 I guess that nobody really knows our fate on the waitlist, based on mixed reviews, so why stress about something we can't control. Hopefully most will get in off the waitlist and we can all celebrate together in Sept at MWU. Good luck to all still waiting.:luck:

Is Midwestern everyone's number one choice? The school is amazing.

Does anyone else worry (a little) about how many patients they will be able to attract?

Yes, Midwestern is an amazing school, and it is my number one choice. I am not worried about the number of patients they will be able to attract. The population in Phoenix is large, and I am sure there are patients in dire need of dental services. When did you interview at Midwestern?

Jan 7th. The school is amazing along with its faculty. My second concern is the amount of patients they will be able to attract, and first is, will they accept us, soon.

Arizona has plenty of dental need, and I'm sure patients will not be a problem. Word will spread about the new clinic and all 111 of us will have our hands full. They're supposed to break ground on the clinic in about a year...can't wait to see and use it.

ASDOH just opened up a six chair satelite clinic in Glendale called Dental Care West because Glendale has great need for dental care, especially the geriatric population, so there's no doubt that the Midwestern clinic will busy once it opens.

Any word on when, specifically, MWU will start 2nd round acceptances (pulling from alternative list)?

Best of luck to all!

don't know the specific date of the next acceptances.. If someone does know that, please keep us updated. what I heard at my interview was later this week, so I was really hoping for my status change today.. It seems like we have to wait a few days more... :xf:

--------

Just called them, she told me they are not informed about the acceptances yet from the adcoms. and she also said that they MIGHT wait for the next week's interviews..

Has anyone that interviewed in early Jan. heard back yet?

I interviewed early January, still nothing. I sure hope to hear back soon. I can't stop thinking about it. I just want to know where I stand so I can plan on what I need to do.

hopefully they make some decisions after today&tomorrow's interviews by later this week. :xf:

I believe they said they'd start making decisions 2 weeks after the interview date. So, they should be coming really soon. Then, difficult decisions lay ahead...

I just spoke to Jenny at the MWU admissions office. She stated that the next round of acceptances should be going out later this week or sometime next week. She did not have any specific information with regard to when the ad. coms would meet (whether this week or next) but that when they do they will be reviewing all of the waitlisted applicants as well as the ones recently interviewed.

Hope that this helps.

So when they start making decisions are they looking at post-dec. 1st interviewees and the waitlisted students? Or just the post-dec. 1st interviewees?

Thanks, best of luck!

No prob. I was interested as well since there was a post last week in here about the next round. After I did not hear anything from anyone I figured that I would call and see what was up.

Good luck to you and to everyone else that is waitlisted.:xf:

I wish the best luck to all of you, and hope a lot of you will receive good news in the following weeks.

As the inaugural class, we were fortunate enough to have a really diverse, enthusiastic and tight group of classmates. My only hope is that the Class of 2013 will be like that too.

Dr. Polk told said to me, "I am confident that we will be seeing each other soon" and I got a call on December 1st! SO EXCITED!

I'd like to know if there are some fellow sdners who had Dr. Running and/or Dr. Zais for your interview and accepted on Dec 1st? Please give us some encouraging comments!! :xf:

Interviewed on Jan 6

MWU wait-listers.. keep your head high! I interviewed in October, wait-listed through late June, then accepted.. it's definitely possible!! Just keep in touch with them, any other letters of rec you can send definitely help as well 🙂

LOTS of people withdraw due to MWU's $$ (for ALL programs). When I called in March all spots were full.. they were accepting into August.

Dr. Polk (he's male, btw) is a riot. Very fun. Dr. Zais is everyone's surrogate grandpa-- don't knock the Zais. 🙂
