Anyone know if we're able to apply for osteopathic EM programs? JSGMESB allows 3 years for EM training if you get a deferment, but half of all MD programs are 4 years and ALL of the DO programs are 4 years. That definitely limits the choices of civilian residencies.

Thanks.

First, remember that DoD EM programs are intern + 3 (total 4 years).

Second, yes you can request a deferment to apply to Osteopathic EM program, but you may or may not get it. If the program into which you are accepted is a 4 year program, they will give you the additional year.

Army EM programs are 3 yrs and they are filled 1/4 to 1/3 w/ DO's. I do not know the details of how directors compare the COMLEX w/ the USMLE.
