Hi,
Can anyone give an approximate idea about the minimum criteria for admissions (if you got through or based on your friend's admission):

NBDE1:?
NBDE2:?
GPA:?
TOEFL:?
work ex(home):? mo
work/volunteer ex(US):? mo
Research/Publications:?

Do the admissions committee read the Statement of Purpose and CV/Resume in detail or is it true that they just look at the NBDE score?
Will appreciate any inputs.

thanks,
Ray

Hello Ray,
The minimum requirements are not carved in stone. Everyone thinks that there is an "invisible cut-off bar" that admission committees set. It is merely true.
Now on a lighter note, there are advantageous credentials which may help to better support other short comings on your application, such as lack of practical experience and/or research.

In my personal judgment, that would be
NBDE's I:%85+, II:%80+
TOEFL: 250+
GPA: ECE 3.1+
Work exp: 2yrs+ (preferably at least 1 in US).

They definately read your application/admission statement because that gives them a very good look and idea about your communication skills and linguistic abilities.

I hope I was able to help you at all, and let me know if I can give you any information about schools programs in specific.

👍 👍 I would agree in general with what Nile BDS has to say. To actually state there is a set minimum criteria for admission can be very misleading to future candidates and can be a source of unnecessary distress for those who fall short on any of those "requirements".

In general, though nbde part 1 score is of considerable importance.A great score will help ensure that you will receive calls from schools. But from that point on , it really depends on how each candidate performs during the interview process. However, even if your score isn't outstanding, you still would have a good chance but in such a situation, you would want something else in your resume to stand out to grab their attention like work experience or great GPA etc.

I guess my experience in this interview cycle has been that no matter what your stats are, unless they very low ( Like low 80s part 1) , everyone has a good chance of getting in somewhere. You really want to take a hard look at your entire resume and background and try to highlight all of the positive aspects throughout your career.

So folks, do not be discouraged by initial setbacks, hang in there and do what you feel is right......keeping in mind that competition is tough out there....

Very well said Treasure. I share your experience. Are you in any programs yet or still interviewing ?
To give some hope to everyone out there, and further prove my point, i'll give you some top secret insight to my application 😛.

NBDE I:81, II:82
TFL: 273
ECE GPA: 2.9
Natn: Egypt
Exp. 1 yr home, 2 yrs DA USA

I applied to 6 schools, got 3 interviews (so far), and am put on 2 waiting lists (I haven't been to the 3rd interview yet).

So there you have it. Do not let others intimidate you by high board scores. Just have a "go get 'em" attitude, and be confident. You have a pretty good head on your shoulders and should be proud of yourself just to be in this fierce competition.

Good luck to all.
