Hi, I'm a general surgery resident on a research year in New York, and I'm looking for moonlighting opportunities to make some extra cash. I recently got lisenced, but I can't seem to find any hospitals that are looking for moonlighters. I've called many in the NYC area. Just looking for some help if you have moonlighted in the past or know of any opportunities. Thank you.

Are you looking for in the city or can you venture further out?

Also consider surgical assisting or there is a Wound Care company that advertises in all the freebie journals that will hire residents in NY, NJ, etc. and apparently pays well.

I am willing to venture out of NYC. Do you know of any opportunities?

How do I go about finding positions in surgical assisting and the wound care company? I will look into it.

Thanks for the replies!

Several of my friends in New York have moonlighted at Forest Hills Hospital in Queens. Basically they've got no overnight surgical coverage so they'll hire you to be an intern/consultant/assistant for that time and it pays quite well from what they've told me.

That's about the only moonlighting opportunity I've heard of that's not built into a program (i.e., your program probably will pay you to moonlight coverage on the cardiac service or something...).

Good luck.

Hi Ask17 (or anyone with info!),
I am a new fellow in NYC looking for moonlighting opportunities and stumbled across your blog. I did not realize it would be so difficult. I am BC Internal Med. Did that Forest Hill hospital work out at all? How did your search go? I would appreciate any leads. Thanks!
