Again referring to Fadem HY BS 3rd edition, a competent pregnant woman that is HIV+ has the right to refuse treatment with AZT prior to delivery.

Once delivered, threats by the mother to breastfeed can lead to removal of the baby by Child Services.

Can the baby be treated with AZT; is that warranted? What is an HIV+ positive given at birth to prevent infection?
