So, we just had our graduation (okay, weds, I am mostly recovered now) and as our class of 12 men and 1 woman graduated, I started to wonder what the rest of the world of ER residency looked like... Here is our new breakdown:

pgy3: 5 women 7 men
pgy2: 10 women 4 men
pgy1: 10 women 4 men

What's your residency look like?

And yes, I am now a pgy2. I finished CCU today! NO MORE INTERNSHIP!

Pgy 3 11men 1 woman
Pgy 2 10 men 2 women
Pgy 1 9 men 4women (class just expanded in size)

recently graduated class 10 men 2 women

I think my program averaged about 5 male/3 female or 6 male/2 female. Mine was 5 male/3 female..

PGY3: 8 men, 2 women
PGY2: 5 men, 4 women (was 5 until 1 left the program)
PGY1: 8 men, 4 women (now approved for 12 spots)

Class that just graduated was 8 men, 2 women.

The face of emergency medicine is rapidly changing, and it has an increasingly female look. However, the vast majority of working EPs are still male. The last group I was in had 11 full-time docs, 9 male and 2 female. One of those women was relatively young, and the other graudated from residency with me.

The current multihospital partnership I'm in now is overwhelmingly male (at least judging from the one partnership meeting I've been to so far).

Our ER is becoming increasingly poplular with our consultant services like Ortho and general surgery. 😀

Graduated : 2 female, 8 male
PGY3: 1 female, 9 male
PGY2: 2 female, 8 male
PGY1: 1 female, 9 male

I guess we are still old-school.

with YOU there and 25 other women, I might have to spend my elective month up there.

My incoming class is 4 guys/4 girls, plus 2 girls on the EM/IM track...

You are dangerously funny. 😍 Of course, I don't know if you could keep up with our group. Things are pretty tame down there in Fl land. 😀

You two seriously need to get a room 😉

we'll close the curtains when we do our "FAST" exams. BTW, I won't always be so "FAST" with you roja. I just need to think of baseball or something else.

😍 😀 :scared: 😛 🙂 😱
Q

At East Carolina University, bastion of diversity...

PGY 3 (graduating now): 10 dudes, 3 chicks.
PGY 2: 7 dudes, 4 chicks.
PGY 1: 9 dudes, 4 chicks.

I might add that of the 11 ladies in our program, 8 are married, 1 is engaged, 1 is seriously seeing somebody, and I have no clue about the 11th. The single-and-looking males like myself are slightly more numerous, but not much more so.

Baseball? that's what you have to think about? 😀 there are medications to help with that.

of course, FAST exams take practice. You just have to do them over and over.... 😉

Hmmm, depends on how "FAST" you have been moving. 😀

I... I... dont' know why... the probe... just... went... limp. I mean... it always works, even during traumas and codes, its ALWAYS working but... I don't know, it just... not tonight. I'm sorry, its not you! I need to call sonosite.

NO! I mean, its happened before. Way back in high school I was doing an ultrasound on my prom date and for some reason the sonosite wouldn't turn on! I kept hitting the button MYSELF trying to get it to work but to no avail. Then once or twice in college it happened too!

No its not you!

Hmm... Is it wrong to take those numbers into consideration when deciding on a specialty? I'm all about the 10:2 classes. (Ten males:Two females that is...)

PGY3: 7 men 3 women
PGY2: 7 men 4 women
PGY1: 5 men 6 women

They are all lovely people, and good to the techs. One of the new G3's (OH MY GOD THEY'RE IN CHARGE NOW) told me this new class has "not a lot of drinkers," and he said it with regret. They also have more non-trads than usual. Yay for women, older students, and people who drink!
