I was wondering what the most competitive fellowships of internal medicine are.

I agree. Cards and GI because that's where the big bucks are and everyone wants to do them, and Allergy/Immuno because there are so few spots.
 
My understanding is that there has been a Hem/Onc explosion in recent years for IM grads putting it right in the borderline top tier range

I've always considered it in the "2nd tier" range- very competitive but still a relatively big step down from Cardio/GI

Can anybody shed some light on what direction Hem/Onc will be going as far as competitiveness and demand?

Have a feeling my PDs LOR is going to be average. Any takes on what to do to improve my chance of getting into fellowship. My hem-onc LORs are going to be excellent. Does it compensate.
