It did not surprise me.
national health insurance > more people with health insurance > more potential customers.

Doesn't it also mean that gov't will start controlling how much they will pay docs...which will probably be less. Also - more gov't beaurocratic BS. Ofcourse the government is known for their lightning quick efficiency so I'm not too worried. I'm too tired to think right now.

But lesser pay per customer means seeing more patients, working longer hours, spending less time with each patient just to keep your income. Worse not only for the doctor, but the patient as well.

Ask your local private physician whether they were sent the survey. I wonder what the academic vs private breakdown was.

The way the American system is now, the administrative costs are through the roof in comparison to countries that have universal health care. Americans also spend nearly twice as much per person than any other country. As a Canadian (against socialism), it is just astounding to me that so many young Americans that want to be doctors don't quite understand how messed up the American system is. Shouldn't health be like education?

the fact that most docs favor universal healthcare just proves that a minority know better

Of course I prefer everyone with health insurance! I can't wait for the days where I can expect to be short changed on my billing and eat the difference in loss without the benefit of a tax break! I yearn for the times where my patient's treatment options are denied by some penny pinching tools in suits armed with an MBA and zippo experience, but ironically make more than me, just because it eats into their bottom line. Please allow them to auestion and control my practice of medicine. Obviously they know more than me.
I'm counting down to the days when my pay is cut, my liabilities rise, and my quality decreases due to overwhelming numbers of patients taken on per capita. Oh and because quality decreases they're going to withhold even more of my pay most likely due to circumstances beyond my control.

Idiot's disclaimer:
For the clueless and witless out there who do not recognize satire, this is NOT an endorsement of national or universal health insurance. Whoever sees good coming out of this impending doom, first, stop drinking the magical Kool Aid and get your head clear, and second, ask yourself, how you are going to pay the bills when everyone you thought was going to pay you screws you over instead?

When the federal government controlled 0% of the system, it was 5% of GDP and the envy of the world. Governments now pay ~50% of healthcare bills, with the federal government essentially telling everyone how to do everything using Medicare as the big carrot on a stick (maybe just a big stick). We're now closing in on 20% of GDP with everyone unhappy. I'm sure that giving them the other 50% will fix everything .

Physicians are notoriously bad with money, and they are worse with politics. I really don't care if the survey said 99% of physicians support universal health insurance. Then I would think that 99% were wrong.

Yep, welcome to the government paved road to hell. Free health care, universal healthcare access, free or heavily subsidized child care, welfare and disability income, bailout packages, gun control, free or subsidized grade school education to all, and high risk, high interest goverment subsidized loans.

All provided to you, the NON-taxpayer, with all the goverment's good, but poorly thought out intentions.

Except for the loans and maybe the bailout, why would any of this be bad?

You're still paying for it, and even more so to those who truly have not earned it, nor deserve a penny of it. If you enjoy legalized robbery, then have fun. I don't wish to be any part of it, if I had choice. This pisspoor management of money, all in the interest of "equal opportunity" has led to our current crisis. And when the $hi+ market really hits the fan, and everyone's broke, pissed, and frustrated, Mr Burglar and his keen taste for your belongings, and Mr Armed Robber with his illegally acquired firearm will most definitely come knocking at your door demanding you for a handout seeing as how gun control laws have most definitely influenced their thinking and made their job much easier. I'd include Mr Rapist in the mix, but that usually doesn't involve money. They just flat out need to die and soon.
