How about a urologist that specializes in penis fracture reconstrution?

Probably the world's most rewarding job. Put an old rich famous man's junk back together after a viagra episode and i'm sure you'll be set for life.

Do IR people do any procedures on young, healthy, beautiful people?
only for the beautiful people with screwed up insides. as colbgw02 said, all non-peds/neonatal specialties see mostly old people.

Diagnosis: dude can't get hot chicks, tries to compensate by fantasizing about a more glamorous future. Continues for next 10-15 years, and then becomes an @$$hole doc that blames/takes it out on "poors", the system, nurses.

That's why I have trouble ignoring posts like this and not taking them seriously.

 I don't understand why these people don't just try to "be" the people they want to be instead of trying to be the people who *service* the people they want to be. Why aim for being the dude who washes Kobe's underpants when you could aim for being a star in your own right?

Dude... plastics man... Brooke Burke was married to a plastic surgeon. And that guy's butt ugly. 'Nuff said.

They don't have talent so they become starf*ckers.

i think dermatologists and orthos and plastic surgery(liposuctions) have the best chances of repairing people who are actually cool. dermatologists also get to deal with least bull****.

washing kobe's underpants wouldnt be as bad as washing the underpants of the beezy who he cheated with..i read bad things about police reports and her underpants--ish was a sperm bank in its own right....had a little bit of errbody if knamean

To the op,

You have a chance at achieving what you want if you go into psychiatry...there are beverly hills and manhattan type psychiatrists who treat mostly well to do upper class clients who often have the money and the depression/anxiety/addiction to need psychiatrists. Of course, most people who go into psychiatry don't go into solely for this purpose and want to treat "real" diseases but some do what you are describing.

Also, people like Dr. Drew, Dr. Phil, Dr. Keith Ablow (who just interviewed that pedophile guy on tv), while not all psychiatrists, function predominantly in psychiatrist roles and the perks of dealing with society and being socially recognized but still being well respected as those who deal with the mental health of individuals are there.

Disclaimer: I HATE Dr. Phil and his style and methods, he is a hack.

In general, psychiatry is a difficult field for some, but if you are comfortable talking to people, it actually can be less "yucky" and more "glamorous" in terms of how much your patients appreciate you, than most other fields. This is especially true if you are selective with your patients and practice in an area where people recognize seeing their "shrink" as cool, which is predominantly in major cities that are more "cultured" than rural areas where it is more taboo to have mental health issues.

yeah you're right. but most psychiatrists dont get such schick jobs. i dont think it's because they're so compassionate that they prefer to work with the poors. you just need a lot of marketing skills and/or talent to make it as Paris Hilton's psychiatrist. most med students want to become dermatologists.

I have to agree with one of the earlier posters......this thread is either really sad or really funny. Quality entertainment for a slow day in the ER.

Every specialty talks crap about every other specialty. The only specialty no one questions in pathology.....because while internists/surgeons/radiologists might disagree on diagnosis/treatment, no one except the oncologists are even close in competancy to challange the pathologists.

As for public prestige, I think you grossly over-estimate the role of physicians in people's lives. We're consults not their friends.

2. Medicine is, at the end of the day, a service industry. You can rub elbows with all the well-to-do's you want, but at the end of the day you are a wage earner. The truly wealthy do not work for their paycheck. You will not be one of them.

This is very true. My dad is a slumlord and owns several strip malls, and is always telling me how I will always be beholden to someone else for a paycheck. Its pretty sad that I'll never make as much as him since he works about 20 hours a week, and I would hardly call it work.

Not in terms of money, but in terms of benefits. Do any doctors get presents such as full-season tickets to yankees games or invited to celebrities' house parties? I could see plastic surgeons as being successful if they do liposuction for a wife of some rich man, how about any other specialists?

i-banking...

They don't have talent so they become starf*ckers.

Star****ers! Star****ers incorporated!

If you want to hang with the elite, go for academic medicine at a prestigious university. But honestly, this is pretty silly.
