pritzker is *not* under rated...

Uni of South Alabama is the most under rated..it's better than USF, and ppl think USF is better. Better board scores and pass rates on step I and II than Uni of FL, UAB, USF, Miami, or FSU.

Really hard to say what exactly being "underrated" entails. But, two schools that I didn't really realize just how reputable they were until recently are PITT and MAYO.

I say Pritzker because they can so easily fill their class with the 4.0/40 studs, but choose not to for many reasons. I get the impression that because they're more liberal with who they admit, they suffer in the US News rankings.

With one or two exceptions, all of the schools mentioned so far are highly ranked. The University of Chicago underrated? Huh? There seems to be a lack of perspective when highly qualified med school applicants compare schools. It's a bit like all the posts on this site from applicants claiming to have bad stats but very clearly don't. I think the term "underrated" should be reserved for schools that are constantly badmouthed but provide solid educations: Albany, MCP, NY Med, Chicago Med, etc.

And the bashing begins. The schools I mentioned are unranked and any ratings they may have would be unofficial. They may not rate highly in the eyes of pre-med students, but that has no bearing in the "real" world.

I'd vote for Medical College of Wisconsin when you get out of the midwest. Most midwest residency programs I interviewed at had high opinions of the school. Many east coast and some west coast programs didn't know much about it.

The only school I saw which I agree with on here is UCI...I don't really know too much about the others like UVA though....

Some people just amaze me. You really think Baylor is underrated? And Pritzker? WTH...damn...

Right on Too $hort!! My 2 nominations are: UCD and Creighton. UCD has a superb reputation in the medical community, and Creighton is consistently rated as the best value package in the midwest. For some reason, they are not getting as much love as they should. I dont think UVA is under-rated; it's an awesome school, my #2 choice actually, and has a very well-deserved rep. in the east coast.

I'd say Pitt. I do go Pitt for med school, but I don't think it gets the recognition other places get. I didn't even know about Pitt before I started applying for med school (I'm from the west). Still, a school that is 12th in NIH funding, who has a hospital system ranked 15th overall, has a very solid corriculum, financially sound, and still you just don't hear about it as much as other places. If Pitt's med school was at Brown U. it would be ranked top 15, easily. Just my opinion.

...and yet somebody still says "Pitt." I agree wtih Scooby... there is nothing underrated about a school that is in the top twenty but *maybe* you think it should be #13 or #12.

When I first saw Pritzker mentioned here, I had to go back to the original post to see if I misread the theme. Pritzker has enjoyed a top 20 rep for more than 30 years, and in some years even in the top 10. Sorry, I beg to differ on that one as well. That was really off the mark.

USC is still in the hind quarter of the rankings...and they are well known for their clinical, but I guess they don't factor in clinical experience into rankings...of course, it is a research ranking...
