Hey guys and girls

Me and my neighbour from the University of Guelph got into med here and we decided that we are gonna try to get a 4 person house. That leaves us a couple short!

To make a long story short, we'd like to get a couple more canadians to head into a house with us.

We just want a max of 4 people though, otherwise it gets a little tight for space in the kitchen and living room.

We are both 23, both guys who will probably have an awful sunburn in the middle of January. We crack down and get to work when we have to, and have 4 years of university relaxation mastered.

So drop a post, or send me an email, its [email protected] and let me know what you guys think.

Take it easy, and I'll see everyone in a couple months!

Hey Guys and Girls,
First off I would like to congratulate every one on their acceptances! so CONGRATS!! Secondly I am the "neighbour" that Koul is referring to. We have both been doing alot of looking into flights and houses in Brisbane once we received our offers, and feel that the idea of a 4 person house could be in the best interests for some of us, saves us some cash, plus then sharing rent, utilities and appliances etc is also cheaper. And as he said we are a "couple short".

We are both estactic about studying medicine at UQ and look forward to see all you guys and girls "Down Under"

so drop a post or send him an email and we''ll see what we can come up with

cheers

I'm in. Just sent you an email.

Anyone else from Guelph headed to UQ. Haha.. small world.. =)

Oh, and btw, any luck with cheap flights? Last week I was quoted $1000 one way from Toronto to Brisbane in early January.

Haven't been to travelcuts yet though..

so far, through oztrekk I have seen flights that are 1800 +tax return. But thats about as good as it gets so far. Might as well get 1 way though, who knows when we'll be comming back

well as much searching as I have been doing i havent really found anything much cheaper that about 1800 one way. I havent looked for return tickets because I have no idea when the first time i will get to come back will be.
Also Koul and I have been thinking we may only want one layover, not that it makes a huge difference but if the prices are similar... why not make it easier on ourselves.

cheers

Or if it's not too much more, you can always stay a few days in SE Asia. several of my classmates did that on their way here last year. A couple others spent all of January in Thailand. Singapore is also a common stopover in/out of Australia, and if you're there for more than 4-5 hours, they have free bus tours of the city from the airport.

Wow! I guess I should have taken the $1000 offer from flight centre..

Where are you checking for pricing? Is it all web-based? In my experience, it seems that all the expedia.com, etc, type places have higher rates than travel agents.

As for heading to Asia, that's something I didn't even consider, but I imagine it would be wicked. In my case though, I'm planning a trip to Europe with the parents to relax a little before I'm gone to the underside of the world. =)

btw, what sorts of prices have you guys found for housing? I haven't really looked into anything larger than 1 bedroom yet.. work is stealing all my time.

Cheers.

Although I plan to live on campus the 1st year, I was looking at off campus places to compare. If you havn't already, www.ourbrisbane.com is a good start. You can specify whether you want to rent an apartment/house, number of bedrooms, location and price range. 👍

Cheers. 🙂

Hey All!
I am from Manitoba and will be heading to Brisbane as well. I am just starting to look at accomodations so I'm not sure what I will be doing. I may be interested in rooming with you if you still have room...like I said I have no idea where I might stay. This whole last week feels like a whirlwind has ripped through my life and turned it upside down. That's not a bad thing...I'm just feeling kind of frazzled at the moment. It's great to hear that there are quite a few fellow Canadians heading 'down under' as well!

cheers!!

I am going to get a temporary accommodation on campus, and look for the permanent housing once I get to Australia. I was hoping to room with somebody after meeting people in the orientation session for the international students.

Hello to all the fellow Canadians!

I won't be able to make it to Brisbane before the 23rd of January but I was advised to wait until I get there to find accommodation. Do you think I'll be able to find something so late in the game? I was hoping to look around a bit for an apartment and perhaps meet some people in the orientation sessions too!

Will I be too late?

I dont think that you will be to late as alot of local people wont move up much before the 23rd either if you dont mind living with some aussies-but ill meet you all in jan cos I got in 🙂

Hello:

I'm applying for dorms right now, mainly International House, and the process seems harder than med itself. I need 2 references (1 academic/1 personal), transcripts, personal interview, 4 passport size photos 😱
..Wow....even compariable to US med schools...haha 🙄

This is my first time applying for dorm, so I don't know the standard. I was a bit overwhelmed/surprised at what I found. Anyone know how the place is like? 🙂

Cheers

I will be arriving in Brisbane during on the 6th, so I'm also hoping to meet people there or find something or somewhere to live. I've been doing lots of looking on the net, and it's overwhelming, especially when I've never been to the city and don't know anyone there. I am hoping they will provide enough info so I know where to start at those "getting started" and accomodation sessions.
I'm finally getting over the shock of everything and getting super excited!

Hey guys, keep in mind that if you all end up living together and hanging out together, you'll potentially isolate yourselves from the cultural experience. I strongly recommend waiting until you're here to find a place, since then you can scope out the scene in person. There will be many places seeking housemates through jan (through feb actually, but the temp housing on campus will want you to leave by the end of jan or so).
