I am from Tanzania, East Africa. I applied to a lot of universities for an MPH this year. In terms of international friendly universities, most MPH universities have quite a few international students pursuing MPH so I think most are "international friendly".

I think the major concern for international students is financing the degree since most of us are not eligible for scholarships/financial aid. But there are a few universities out there (UIC, Albany, NYU) that do have assistantships available. Good luck with the application process.

none of the high-ranked programs are affordable, in my opinion ("affordable" is relative). Regardless of ranking, or whether or not you're an int'l student, Very few MPH programs are affordable. The annual cost of attending a typical high-ranked public health school is almost the same as for medical school but the post-graduation prospects (salaries, jobs, etc.) are markedly less for an MPH, making it unaffordable, to me. Be prepared to enter into a lot of debt unless you have about 80k available to you.

All universities are friendly to int'l students from anywhere (esp. with the uber-expensive MPH). Whether the US gov't is friendly in terms of awarding student visas is another matter. I think it depends on which African country you are from in this case.

I applied to several schools this year and last year. I will be starting in Fall 2008. I plan on taking out loans to fund the degree.

Hey everyone, do you have any updates on funding sources? How did it turn it out for you and if you have any advice, I would really appreciate it?

I am an international student applying for Fall 2009 and am looking into insight about funding.

Thank you!

I would suggest getting in touch with faculty in the department you are interested in. Tell them about your background and experiences and work from their. I have had some good looks and some standard answers like " thank you for your interest but blah blah blah"
Worth a shot

I completed my MPH online through U Mass Amherst. There was a student from Africa in my program. I know there were other international students as well.
