At UT Houston they heavily emphasize the importance of a thesis to get into a doctoral program. If we are talking about a PhD I would tend to agree but I am applying to a DrPH program and know it isn't going to be all that relevant to my long term career goals if I can get in somewhere without it. Basically I'm interested in being in a good position at the CDC not really academia and I know getting the DrPH has a huge impact there on my promotion potential and salary. Do you think this will seriously matter?

I feel like all of these positions are interested in seeing experience within the field. I figure if my thesis can reflect that, I will do anything for it. That being said, for most MPH programs, a thesis or major project is a must. Whether it helps with the DrPH Im not sure, but you'll probably have to do one or something like one for your MPH.
