Anybody know how difficult this MCQ exam is? Somebody told me it has a 20% or so pass rate for first time test-takers. Is it as impossible as they say it is?

You got it right maan, and the funny thing is even the real bright guys dont think of passing it the first go.Its the tradition to flunk a few times.

I tell you the britishers are a weird lot.

Some of the exams here in the UK are a little unusual in their pass/fail criteria. To get through the first part of the Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, for example, you need to be in the top 20% or so of candidates. The other 80% fail.

Does the MRCS diploma confer an advantage when applying for US surgical residencies? The reason I ask is that I intend to apply for a surgical residency in the US but I would like to do my MRCS first, so that I have the option of possibly completing the FRCS and returning to the UK at some point in the future.
