My hematologist ordered a US to check for splenomegaly, and I'm wondering why he didn't just order an MRI/CT w/ contrast? They're much more detailed and sensitive.

Of course you probably know SDN is not for medical advice, and if you personally have a question about your medical care the best place to seek answers is from the ones delivering that care.

That said, my guess (from a practical standpoint, not being a radiologist or hematologist or knowing anything really) is an MRI/CT wouldn't reliably tell you any more about the underlying pathology than US. If the objective is to see is the spleen enlarged or not, and the cheap quick test does that as well as the big time-consuming expensive one, then go with the former.
