I have the MSAR from last year and was wondering whether I need to get the latest copy for this upcoming cycle? Appreciate any input.

No. Stuff doesn't change enough to warrant buying a newer copy.

To be honest, other than picking which schools you want to apply to, the MSAR is mostly useless. And if you post your school list here, people will make suggestions that will better your chances.

Because the one thing the MSAR doesn't tell you is what a school "favors" in it's admissions. Some schools are real MCAT ...$($#*(, others prefer high GPA, some look for a specific EC, others like research, and the list goes on and on.

Probably the one of biggest mistake one might make is to do this:

"Oooo, Howard, Meharry, and Morehouse have low MCAT averages!!! I should apply there and I'm BOUND to get in!"

A new thread on SDN will have the first reply telling you that you're unlikely to get into those schools if you don't follow their school mission.
