Hello everyone,

I really would like to apply to an MSW program, but money is an issue. I know that MSWs don't give out as much financial aid as PhD programs, but does anyone know of some programs that are good at funding students? I'm particularly interested in going to a program with a good emphasis in mental health. Some of the schools I was thinking of include:

UCLA
UC Berkeley
University of Washington
Florida State University
Virginia Commonwealth University
University of Pittsburgh

But are private programs more likely to give scholarships/fellowships than public schools?

Thanks!

You should check into the University of Southern California (USC). When I looked into their MSW program just last year, they offered full funding to students who agreed to spend 2 years after graduation working in a spacific area of need. I'm checking their website now and can't seem to find where I saw that, but it was on there. I'll post a link when I find it, though it wouldn't hurt to check it out for yourself.

This isn't what I was looking for, but I think that this could really help you out. Below is a quote that I pulled out of the FAQ section of the USC MSW website.

"Another option is participation in the CalSWEC/IUC stipend programs. Full-time students receive educational stipends of $18,500 and specialized training in public child welfare in exchange for committing to work in a California public child welfare agency or at the Department of Children and Family Services upon graduation. A similar program is available for students interested in mental health, who receive specialized training and a stipend of $18,500 in exchange for committing to work with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health after graduation."
