Does anyone know why the MSBS / PREP-MED program at Mount Sinai has received so little discussion on this board? I find it surprising that it has gotten such sparse attention. Is there anybody who has experience with this program that can answer questions about it?

Thanks very much in advance!

..the avg marks required to get into this program are on par with profile of MD students at lower tier med schools.

my guess is that instead of spending 1.5 years here, those people got into med school already...

it doesn't seem to be much of a "mark booster" program, since you have to have decent (~B+->A-) avg to get in...

I suppose that makes sense, but then why is it being sold as a post-baccalaureate program, rather than a plain vanilla Master's program? Anyways, thank you for your reply.

My son lacked the required number of "A's" needed to be attractive to med school. He was accepted at a number of post bac programs but selected Mt. Sinai.

Mt. Sinai is a great program; it boasts near perfect numbers for entrance into US med schools. The work is very demanding and includes an intensive research component. Most students will help with a research project that will end in a published paper which may later assist the student gain a desired residency post med school.

My son had good grades from a great college but they were a bit below Mt. Sinai's published stats so those with like stats below those published should nevertheless apply if they believe the program is appropriate for them.

Good luck to all. Please do not become discouraged. Never- ever give up.

It's geared to people that wanna go into MD or MD/PhD, and there's med school classes in the mix of courses you have to take while in the program. It's also shorter than a traditional Master's...

Just read this on their site:

"Applications are invited from students have at least a 3.5 undergraduate grade point average [GPA], and who have achieved or can reasonably be expected to achieve a 34 on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)."
