Hi Everybody,

So I have an interview with NYMC on the 23rd of Jan and one with Mt. Sinai on the 24th. (Very excited about it 😀 ) Now I have found a pretty good priced ticket flying from Cali to JFK airport. I was wondering would it be bad planing if I fly to JFK and go to Valhalla on the 23rd. Then after my NYMC interview go to New York and fly home from JFK again after my Mt. Sinai interview the next day. I know this might sound like a stupid question, but i have never been to New York and am wondering if JFK is the best airport to fly to (distance wise) considering my little trip pathway. Should I fly to one airport and fly back from another? That probably be more expensive but do you guys think its better?

Thanks in advance for your help.

La Guardia is MUCH closer to Mt. Sinai.
(think 30 min cab ride during rush hour as opposed to over an hour) You can even get there by city bus for 1.50

Newark is also an option you should look into.

Thanks for the info cacophony 🙂

Yep, Laguardia seems like a better option...it's closer to both schools and flights are usually cheaper to LGA than to JFK.

Unless you're taking JetBlue. 😎

I recently flew from Cali for an interview at NYMC in Nov. (JetBlue is fabulous!!) I got off the plane and got onto the subway at JFK (Howard beach station) which is a short shuttle ride away (take the one that says subway). The A train will take you from JFK into Manhattan, from there I transferred at Fulton Street to the 4, 5, or 6 going to Grand Central station where I caught the Metro North Harlem Line to the White Plains stop (there is a Valhalla stop, but apparently not every train stops there). The cab drivers there knew where the school was (although I cannot remember the price of the fare). For me, I just repeated this process to get back to JFK, so unfortunately, I am no help for getting to Mt. Sinai. I know that there are probably easier ways to get there, but I found this was a relatively inexpensive way to get from So. Cal to NYMC, $1.50 subway, $5.00 train, can't remember cab cost. I hope that this can help.

Yup, it is JetBlue... glad to hear its good service.

gonnaBmd,

Thanks for the detailed directions/advice. It helps a whole lot, I'll figure out how to go from Valhalla to Mt. Sinai somehow. Watch, I'll bet ya with my luck I'll still get lost...😛

Thanks again.

And, faster - White Plains to 125th Street - pick up the 6 there (green train, local), and Mt. Sinai is 3 or 4 stops down (there's a stop at 103, and one at 96 - you're in the middle). Going all the way down to GCS (42nd Street) is way, way out of the way.

Yeah, there's no reason to go all the way to GCT. I heard the cab fare from JFK to GCT isn't too bad ($15?).

A cab from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan is $35 plus tolls and tip.
Good Luck.🙂
