But...
- graduated a year ago as a music major with a BM in Music Performance, having won a couple of international competitions
- currently work as a clinical research assistant in the department of orthopedics at a prominent state medical school.
- am an unpaid clinical researcher in the same school's ED.
- volunteer as a first aid provider at the state Special Olympics
- and have great letters of rec from both the chairmen of neurosurgery and orthopedics, with whom I have shadowed extensively (30+ hrs each).
- and have had an upward trend in my grades, though I have one "W" from very early in my college career

The kicker is that I havn't yet taken my MCAT, but have been doing fairly well on my practice tests averaging in the low thirties so far. I think I might be able to raise it to mid-thirties by my test date in July.

Are MD programs out of reach?

Your sGPA is lowish but with a solid MCAT score I don't think MD programs would be out of reach. The music major and international performance awards would definitely make you a unique applicant and might get you noticed. A July MCAT would make you complete rather late for this cycle, which would put you at a disadvantage.
