hi, I am a student from UC Berkeley, just finished DAT yesterday,
got 23/23/18 on PAT 🙁. my GPA is around 3.6-3.7 both science and overall
and did a good amount of ec (research, volunteer, shadowing, TA for ochem
course) do you guys think I could get into Upenn? I know standards are getting higher and higher and I am applying this may.
if you have suggestion of what I can do to boost my chance of getting
in 5 months, let me know also
Thanks a lot!

i think you have a great chance. you did better than me on the dat (i got 20AA/17PAT) and a similar gpa (3.69 overal, 3.58 sci) and i got in. it sounds like youve done more extracurricular stuff too. just make sure you apply early!! keep in mind that penn is very random at times when selecting candidates for interviews. ive seen some people in this forum with amazing stats that didnt get in (you can search to find that thread). we havent quite figured it out why some get interviews and others dont. but for the most part, your stats seem well-rounded and you have just a great shot of getting in. good luck, maybe ill see you at penn!

with those stats, you can get into a better school than penn! why would you leave cali for philly?!

I think you stand a very good chance. As 'pickme' stated, Penn has been a bit random lately in how they select their candidates (I still don't know what their cutoffs are). Just get your application in early and you should be golden!

with your stats, you will get into penn if you apply. dont worry. however, if i had your stats and your residency, i would apply to UCLA. UCLA is going to be cheaper for you, and the education there is just as good as it is at penn. as far as specialty, penn or UCLA, are the same.....it all depends on the efforts of the student. besides, you have great beaches in L.A. why go to philly. with those stats i'd apply to two schools only: UCLA and Penn (back up). don't worry about the PAT....your GPA from a great undergrad would totally compensate for it. stay away from harvard or columbia. if you want the ivy league name, go for penn.

🙂 🙂 🙂

you dont need to do anything else...the thing about the process i know from having talked with the admission guy at upenn is that they give you two scores...one score is baesd on your application alone, the other score is based on your interview(which u will get with your stats)...based on those two they compare you to other students...so it helps greatly when you show yourself well at the interview thats all u would need to think about in my opinion...thats why if i were u dont sweat...and great job on your scores *sigh* i gotta get started on that whole studying thing haha...i agree with spirit UCLA would be the best option for you unless you love the east coast or something and let me tell you its 18 degrees here!!! 😡

I definitely agree with PickMe and Sprgrover, you have a great chance of getting in. Your stats are excellent, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

In the end I think they are looking for well-rounded individuals, so if you come across as genuine in your personal statement and interview you'll have a great shot at getting in.

Good luck!

I graduated from Berkeley last May, turned in my application 7/1, got an interview in October, and got accepted 12/1. My extracurriculars are similar to yours (the Berkeley pre-professional school mold) and my stats are slightly lower than yours. IMO, the key is to ace the interview and APPLY EARLY. A fellow Berkeley friend of mine applied late in October and got the shaft everywhere except for her last choice. So no joke, apply early!!

PM me if you have any Q's.
